First Name Last Name Email Cell # (1+area code) --------------------------------------------------------------- Featured Topic: Everything You Need to Know About Plant Based Diets, with Dr. Bill Misner

Bill Misner, a Ph.D. nutritionist, alternative medicine practitioner, author of Finding Fitness For Life, and top Master’s runner, including National Trail race course record holder in the age 70-up category, has been on a plant-based diet for the past 20 months, and says that it allows for accommodation of higher training work loads and more strength/speed workouts due to elevated recovery rate. During our discussion, I ask Bill many questions, including:

Have you always eat a plant based diet, and if not, what led you to "make the switch"?

What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

What changes have you observed?

Do you think that part of "feeling good" on a plant based diet is just an acute response to making better food choices, and if so, once that response wears off, is it possible for there to be neural or muscular nutrition deficits down the road?

What about common plant-based diet foods like legumes and grains - are you concerned about binding agents or phytic acids?

There is some argument that neural problems like Alzheimer's are related to inadequate fat intake. If so, does that place someone on a plant based diet at increased risk?

If you look at components like essential fatty acids, essential amnion acids, vitamin D, vitaminK2, CoQ10, preformed vitamin A, iron, vitamin B12, mineral ratios, hormones or A1C, do you see risks from eating a plant based diet.

So do you take nutritional supplements?

I also mention a refutation of the book "The China Study", which I link to here (Weston Price Foundation).

Listener Q&A: ====================================== [contact-form 3 "AskBen"] ======================================

Jeff has a call-in question about whether a "Kosher dairy certified" whey protein is beneficial.

Helene asks: I just read this article you wrote and that is why I am writing you. I am an ultra trailrunner. I am also a Certified Natural Hygienist, which means I know everything about food combining. From my knowledge, I don't have information on how to apply it while doing endurance sport. I didn't found yet readings on the subject. I only found conventional readings on endurance nutrition where everything is mixed together. Even sources that are vegetarian or vegan also mixed up everything...Which means that in competition, I never used gel, energy bar or sport drink. All I ingest is water and fresh fruits. I still get very good results, I never have a cramp. But after 4 hours into it, I can steel feel a lack of energy. Do you have any interesting source of information on the subject?

Kara asks: What's your take on the use of Humanofort to improve training recovery and performance?

Igor asks: After hearing about the amino acids benefits from your podcast I'm thinking to start supplementing by them. You have been recommending the MAP product which I find a bit expensive for me. Do you have any suggestions for what to look while shopping for cheaper aminos? Will it make me more harm than good using the cheap aminos?

Craig asks: I participated in a 70 mile charity ride yesterday and had to SAG in with severe cramping in my vastus medialis and slight cramping in my upper/inner quad area. I couldn't turn the pedals in anything but my lowest gear without bringing the cramps back in full force. I took in a 28 oz bottle of water plus 200 calories of Hammer Perpetuem and 4-6 Hammer Endurolytes each hour. I was taking on so much fluid I had to relieve myself at every rest stop. About 3 weeks ago I started a conditioning program at the Y 3 times a week. It consists of machines and cardio, including leg extensions, presses and curls. I'm doing low weight/high reps as my goal is to reduce fat. What steps do I take to overcome the problem?

Dan asks: What are your thoughts on marijuana use and aerobic training? I don't use it all the time but enjoy it during long runs. I find that it gets me in the groove or mind set to maintain a steady pace. I've never used it racing.

Chris asks: In a recent half ironman I tried to eat my normal race morning breakfast of pancakes and really struggled to get anything down due to "race stomach" nerves. This has been a little bit of an issue at all races this year with it being a bigger issue at the races I want to do best at. However at this recent half it really impacted me as I puked up everything I got down race morning once I got the race venue, it seemed this really disrupted my stomach as I struggled through the whole bike portion to get food down and absorbed into my system, I threw up a couple times on bike and run and then about mile 8 on the run it seemed my stomach finally came around and I successfully put down 3 GUs in the last 5 miles of the run. Unfortunately my lack of caloric intake before and throughout most of the race left me feeling quite flat and unable to perform to my potential. I did this race the previous year and my time this year was about 15 minutes slower but I feel my fitness is better this year and it has shown in other races. So, I feel like pre-race nerves kind of got the better of me in this half and really impeded my performance, so my question is kind of 2-fold, do you have any advice for coping with pre-race nerves, and do you have any good ideas of pre-race meals that are easy to handle if I'm having some trouble getting food down race morning?

The 2 Most Potent Hair Growth & Hair Loss Reversal Molecules Known To Humankind: C60 & GHK-CU - A Big Hair Podcast With Auxano's Jay Campbell & Nick Andrews.

The 2 Most Potent Hair Growth & Hair Loss Reversal Molecules Known To Humankind: C60 & GHK-CU - A Big Hair Podcast With Auxano's Jay Campbell & Nick Andrews.

BenGreenfieldFitness.com/hairgrowth As I was recently reading in a fashion magazine, hair has always been the primary indication of confidence for most men. When you consider that two-thirds of men see hair thinning by the age of thirty-five, and men’s hair restoration is a $1.5 billion industry, you began to understand how much confidence is contributed to a man’s hair. But why? In a Canadian survey conducted by researcher Rosemary Ricciardelli, men identified hair as being the primary link between their youth and attractiveness. Ricciardelli observed how men with a full head of hair — even the ones who weren’t particularly otherwise attractive — go out of their way to bring attention to their hair when meeting someone new. These full-haired men tended to be more relaxed and confident in demeanor when dealing with other individuals because they feel like they represent the standard for the ideal man. Ricciardelli helped prove this theory by asking the participants to physically describe their ideal male figure. All of the participants described men who were clean-cut with a full head of hair. We’re unconsciously groomed (pun totally intended) and conditioned (ha!) to think that a healthy man has a full head of hair. But how does this psychologically affect the way men actually feel in their hair? Perhaps a full head of hair reassures them of their healthy biological standing. Maybe the loss of hair reminds men of their mortal vulnerability. Even men with gray hair prefer the color change over balding. Beards also matter, as facial hair is also a key part of men’s self-identification. In one study, men with facial hair were considered more aggressive than clean-shaven men. Both men and women found men with facial hair to be more masculine, with a higher social status, than men who were clean-shaven. More interestingly, men who are bald tend to accentuate their facial hair as compensation for balding. With the double whammy of baldness and facial hair, a man’s masculine appeal could be through the roof. So, to continue on the topic of hair and beard health in men (and the former in women too) that I visited on my recent podcast with Dr. Cameron Chesnut, I decided to continue to explore the topic of hair optimization. My first guest, Jay Campbell, who first joined me on the podcast "Is Metformin Really Dangerous, Little-Known Peptides For Muscle Gain & Fat Loss, Testosterone Replacement Therapy & Much More!" is a 4x international best selling author, men’s physique champion, co-founder of Aseir Custom and founder of the Jay Campbell Brand and Podcast. He is also a a Champion Men’s Physique Competitor and the best selling author of the Testosterone Optimization Bible and of The Definitive Testosterone Replacement Therapy Manual: How to Optimize Your Testosterone for Lifelong Health and Happiness. He also wrote a very popular article on my website entitled Testosterone Decoded, Shattering Testosterone Myths (& Everything You Need To Know About Testosterone Optimization Therapy). As a global influencer on health optimization and raising human consciousness, Jay is no-nonsense, authentic, and fearless in his servant mission of leading humanity towards the Golden Age. Since returning from 12 days in The Sacred Valley of Peru, he's recently experienced a profound awareness of the importance of #RaisingTheVibration of humanity to reach planetary consciousness aka unconditional love. J ay also introduced me to the company "Aseir", which he cofounded along with Nick Andrews (see below). Aseir makes a copper peptide GHK-CU and Carbon 60 (C60) (first explored in my epic podcast with Ian MitchellSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How To Become A "Sheepdog," Grappling With Weapons, Making Yourself Harder To Kill, Are There Fringe Navy SEAL Smart Drugs & Much More With Tim Kennedy.

BenGreenfieldFitness.com/timkennedy My wife and I recently immersed ourselves in a three-day close quarter combat and firearm and personal defense training course called "Sheepdog-Response". We experienced hours upon hours of grappling, close quarter combat, situational awareness, firearm training and much more. We were feeling a bit sore and beat up at the end, but definitely more prepared for any “curveballs” life may throw at us. I think these types of skills, along with skills such as wilderness survival, plant foraging, hunting, etc. are really good ways to ensure that one is prepared for life in general. I was so impressed with the course, that I decided to get the founder of Sheepdog, Tim Kennedy, on the podcast to talk about it, and much, much more. If you haven't heard of Tim, then you definitely need to know about this guy. Tim is a retired American mixed martial artist and current soldier. A fighting professional from 2001 until 2016, he has fought in the UFC, Strikeforce, the WEC, ShoMMA, HDNet Fights, and represented the Chicago Red Bears in the IFL. Kennedy is one of the few fighters to simultaneously serve in the United States Army while also fighting professionally. He also is a television host, producer, and entrepreneur. Tim completed Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School, Special Forces Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course. In 2007, he completed Ranger School and was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group, where he served on an Operational Detachments Alpha. During this time he was also a sniper, sniper instructor, and the principal combatives instructor for C Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group. Kennedy deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom multiple times. In August 2009, Kennedy transitioned from active duty to the Texas Army National Guard's 19th Special Forces Group and served in the position of Special Forces Weapons Sergeant. Among Kennedy's multiple awards are the Army's Bronze Star Medal with V device, which was awarded for valor under fire. He is now an active, Ranger qualified, Green Beret, Special Forces Sniper with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as other locations around the globe. He was host of the History Channel television series Hunting Hitler which explores alternative theories about Adolf Hitler's death. He also hosted the show on Discovery Channel Hard to Kill, which he attempted to explore a day in the life of the world's most dangerous occupations. He produced the TV documentary Not a War Story in 2017 and helped co-produce Warriors in 2014, and also produced and hosted Iron Dragon TV. He’s made appearances on Deadliest Warrior and The Ultimate Soldier Challenge. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The inspiration behind Sheepdog Response training...12:40 -What to expect in the Sheepdog training course...23:35 -What a Sheepdog trained person might carry on them in public...28:45 -The importance of jiu jitsu in combat training...38:15-How real world experience makes Sheepdog training legit...43:55 -How Sheepdog Response vets attendees for the program...48:40 -Real life examples of Sheepdog attendees using their training...54:35 -Fringe smart drugs, supplements and secrets of the Sheepdog Response team...1:01:15 -The most dangerous and impressive occupation in filming "Hard To Kill"...1:07:10 -And much more... Why You're Probably Mineral Deficient If You Eat A "Healthy" Diet, How Coffee & Ketosis Affect Your Mineral Status, Is Himalayan Salt Toxic, The Best Bottled Waters & More: The Mineral Fix With James DiNicolantonio.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/mineralfix Micronutrient deficiencies are widespread across the globe in both developed and developing countries. These deficiencies pose a serious threat to long-term health and longevity. Deficiencies in key minerals, such as magnesium and potassium, increase the risk of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It is estimated that 1 out of 3 people in the United States has at least 10 minerals in which they are deficient: potassium, manganese, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, copper, selenium, chromium, molybdenum, and boron. The Mineral Fix: How to Optimize Your Mineral Intake for Energy, Longevity, Immunity, Sleep and More is a new book on this matter—a comprehensive guide about the role of essential minerals in the human diet. It includes information on all 17 of the essential minerals that humans need for proper physiological function and survival as well as the 5 possibly essential minerals that also have an important role in overall health. The author of The Mineral Fix and my guest on this podcast, Dr. James DiNicolantonio, is a Doctor of Pharmacy and a cardiovascular research scientist. A well-respected and internationally known scientist and an expert on health and nutrition, Dr. DiNicolantonio has contributed extensively to health policy and has testified in front of the Canadian Senate regarding the harms of added sugars. You can follow Dr. DiNicolantonio on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. You can also visit his website at drjamesdinic.com.
