Listener Q&A:

As compiled and read by Brock, the Ben Greenfield Fitness Podcast "sidekick".

Audio statement from Craig @ 00:12:48 After a lot of self-experimenting, he has sorted out his morning nutrition: he eats a banana and 5 MAP, does his workout, then fries some pemmican and eggs in coconut oil. He's middle aged, 145lbs, 5'11" and that works for him.

~ In my response to Craig's breakfast comment, I mention: Pemmican, Nutiva Coconut Oil, Master Amino Pattern, Low Carb Fueling Package.

Audio Question from 30secs @ 00:15:56 On last week's show Ben talked about 30 second bursts of exercise, with a 4 minute rest, done 5 times. What type of exercises would you recommend? Something that doesn't require equipment and can be done almost anywhere. Would Burpees work?

~ In my response, I mention the SetStarter and discount code "10percent".

Audio Question from Dan @ 00:19:53 He is looking to get a GPS watch. What do you think is the best or best value watch (with HRM)? Does he need an altimeter?

~ In my response, I mention www.dcrainmaker.com. I also mention this video on interval training with the Timex Run Trainer:

And this video on pace setting with the Timex Run Trainer:

And the best deal on heart rate monitors, from Heart Rate Monitors USA. My final recommendation to Dan is the Timex Ironman run trainer paired with TrainingPeaks.

Audio Question from Donna @ 00:24:47 She's heard lots of talk about the Green Coffee Bean being some sort of fat burner. Wants to know what your take is on that? She drinks regular coffee (espresso) but has never tried the green coffee.

~ In my response to Donna, I mention the new MPX100.

Audio Question from Jane @ 00:30:05 She is 45-years-old and has been following the Paleo eating plan for a couple months now. She would like to do a half marathon next year but has no idea how to go about that or how to change her eating to optimize for energy and endurance.

~ In my response to Jane, I mention www.lowcarbtriathlete.com

Audio Question from Keerthi @ 00:34:39 He's looking for ways he can add lean body mass without adding body fat percentage. He needs recommendations on micro-nutrient ratio, timing, how many extra calories to eat in order to put on at least 10 lbs of lean body mass.

~ In my response to Keerthi, I mention this Get Fit Guy article.

Audio Question from Rob @ 00:42:19 He plans on training for his first Ironman. He's never done any endurance sport (longest run is 6 miles, swim 3 laps of an olympic pool, bike is 10 miles). He is pretty fit and in shape. Is 200lbs, 13% body fat. Plays basketball and does HIIT. He is a vegetarian. He is thinking of using the "Tri-Dominator" plan for his Ironman training. Do you think that is a good place to start for his first Ironman. He doesn't just want to race he wants to compete! Also, do you have any suggestions on where to get some affordable training gear?

~ In my response to Rob, I mention www.TriathlonDominator.com, the Bronze modules at www.rockstartriathlete.com and www.thetrishop.com (use 10% discount code BEN10).

Audio Question from Tony @ 00:48:26 He is a "lacto-ovo pescatarian" and has IBS. He is trying to go low carb but his dinners (which are out of his control - made by his wife) tend to be higher carb. Is he doing more damage than good having 2 of 3 meals low carb? Especially if he is doing higher fat in the first 2 meals. Due to his IBS he can't do coconut milk or eggs. He follows the "Low Carb for Triathlete" book. He tends to eat a lot of yogurt and almond butter for breakfast but that is getting old.

~ In my response I mention: the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, 2-4 scoops CapraColostrum per day, 4-6 drops oil of oregano per day, 1-3x/day, Hydrochloric acid – start at 1 and work up to 5-7x650mg/day (I recommend NOW Foods Betaine HCL). If H. Pylori, include 2-3 capsules mastic gum per day (I recommend Jarrow Formulas Mastic Gum). 1-2 servings of Bitters per day (I recommend Floradix Herbal Bitters). If urinary tract infection, try D-Mannose – 2-3g/day (I recommend NOW Foods D-Mannose). If you need to eat a meal that is “toxic”, like farm-raised meat, fish, etc. eat activated charcoal immediately prior. Also www.thedietdominator.com and my pesca-ovo vegetarian plan on TrainingPeaks.

How Much Exercise Is Too Much, Why Calorie Restriction May Be A Bad Thing, The Downsides of Hormesis & Other Shocking Health Myth Debunked With Jay Feldman and Mike Fave.

How Much Exercise Is Too Much, Why Calorie Restriction May Be A Bad Thing, The Downsides of Hormesis & Other Shocking Health Myth Debunked With Jay Feldman and Mike Fave.

BenGreenfieldFitness.com/energybalance Are you exercising too much? Is hormesis a bad thing? How much exercise is too much? Should we be avoiding things like carb restriction, saunas and cold? Is caloric restriction really not necessary for lifespan? My first guest on this podcast - Jay Feldman - is a health coach, independent health researcher, and the host of The Energy Balance Podcast, and has strong opinions on all the questions above, and many others. He has degrees in neuroscience and exercise physiology from the University of Miami and decided to forgo medical school after realizing that the conventional medical approach was not the solution to the health problems that so many of us face. After working through various conventional and alternative health paradigms and trialing countless diets (including everything from vegetarian to keto), Jay came across the idea that cellular energy is the foundation of our health. He now uses a bioenergetic approach to help men and women around the world maximize their cellular energy and achieve freedom from low-energy symptoms like chronic hunger & cravings, fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, gut issues, and weight gain. Jay is joined here by Mike Fave, an independent researcher, and a Registered Nurse. Traditionally educated in western medicine as an RN, his true passion is independent research. He spent close to a decade with his head inside a Pubmed article or a physiology textbook, and his heart in some type of nutrition or supplement experiment. In the beginning of his journey, Mike damaged his health getting caught up in dietary dogma and nutrition ideology. He went the western medical route to try to fix the damage and wound up getting talked into a surgery he didn’t need. It’s taken him years to recover, but he doesn't regret it because he learned significantly from his mistakes. He saw all sides of the spectrum from being a patient to being a practitioner to being a part of the alternative health scene. He takes his lessons, experiences, and knowledge to help others not only avoid the mistakes he made, but help them rebuild their health without dogma, ideology, or authoritarianism. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The history of the bioenergetic model... -How Jay and Mike reconcile the dichotomy between their view and the traditional view of a hormetic approach to health... -Why the traditional hormetic model is incorrect... -What causes energy access that leads to chronic disease… -What Jay and Mike's model looks like in the real world... -Clarity on what Jay and Mike's model does NOT mean... -Better ways to get the benefits of hormesis without the stress of hormesis... -And much more... Jessa Greenfield's Morning Routine, Unschooling, Podcasting, Tongue Tacos & More: A Family Dinner Conversation With The Greenfields.

Jessa Greenfield's Morning Routine, Unschooling, Podcasting, Tongue Tacos & More: A Family Dinner Conversation With The Greenfields.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/freerangeinterview Our kids need us now more than ever... -Why are our children more sick, unfocused and depressed than any generation before them?  -Is a shift in childhood education happening, what will it look like?  -Why are more people homeschooling and unschooling than ever, and could it work for a busy family? -What is authoritarian parenting and schooling, and how will it hurt my child in their adult life?  -If discipline doesn't feel right, what is the alternative?  -How can we reverse autism and chronic disease and what role do vaccines really play? These questions and more were addressed in the recent Raising Free Range Kids conference, at which Yours Truly was invited to give a presentation on parenting. To be quite honest, I don't feel at all qualified to speak with authority on the topic of parenting as I've yet to finish the job of raising my two boys. I'd just as soon someone who has raised children into adulthood be a speaker at such an event, at which you'd find me on the front row taking copious notes. But in spite of my objections, conference organizer Robin Shirley insisted she interview me, my wife Jessa and my two boys River and Terran via Zoom about the lifestyle, rituals and experiences of life in the Greenfield home, and that interview is what you'll hear on today's episode. And you'll forgive the cow tongue meat occasionally stuck in my teeth... We did the call while we were having dinner! Meet Robin Shirley Robin Shirley is the Founding President of Take Back Your Health Int’l, a company that hosts health conferences and retreats across the U.S. She speaks, consults and writes about The Take Back Your Health Lifestyle and how to reduce the symptoms of chronic illness, especially in children. Robin is a mother of two beautiful babies, a passionate cook, a Medical Intuitive, Reiki Master Practitioner, Energy Healer, Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and a member of the American Board of Drugless Practitioners. She has helped thousands of people overcome the symptoms of Chronic Lyme Disease, Autoimmune Disease and Depression through her energy healing sessions, intuitive readings, and nutrition, detoxification and healing protocols. Robin grew up with chronic pain, headaches, rashes, depression, digestive discomfort and out-of-control systemic inflammation, and was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at 11 years old. She tried everything to heal naturally. Food overhauls helped a little, supplements helped a little, but nothing truly took the pain away. At 23 years old, Robin was on track to file for disability and give up on her dream to run her own hospitality company. Robin has personally experienced the power of a natural approach to reducing pain and inflammation. Fast forward and Robin is now 32 years old, a mother of two beautiful babies, fiancé to the love of her life and running the business of her dreams. She  is in the process of writing her first book and launching online healing programs for chronically ill patients to get healthy from home. Robin writes and posts about the Take Back Your Health Lifestyle on www.ClubTBYH.com During this episode, you'll discover: -The Greenfield family eating traditions... -The core message of Ben's upcoming parenting book... -Ben's morning routines... -Jessa's and the boys' morning routines... -How two new children affected Ben and Jessa's lifestyle... -Solidifying values and purpose specific to a family... -How River and Terran spend their days... -Silver linings discovered among the capricious clouds of Covid-19... -And much more! The Most Advanced Anti-Aging & Longevity Hack That Exists: The Full Body Stem Cell Makeover With Dr. Harry Adelson & Dr. Amy Killen.

The Most Advanced Anti-Aging & Longevity Hack That Exists: The Full Body Stem Cell Makeover With Dr. Harry Adelson & Dr. Amy Killen.

https://bengreenfieldlife.com/stemcellpodcast I recently underwent the full body stem cell makeover protocol with Dr. Harry Adelson and Dr. Amy Killen, who you'll be introduced to in just a moment. With that being said, I wanted to break down the details about the procedure and my experience with it for those of you who may be interested in a stem cell makeover, or are just plain old fascinated by it. I did an Instagram Live last week where a lot of you may have seen me in one of those fancy hospital gowns, hooked up to a dialysis machine where they were pumping out tons of my blood out of one arm and then re-introducing it back into my body via the other arm. By the process of hyperoxygenation, the blood coming out of my body is being bombarded with ultraviolet light, causing the blood to turn from dark red to light red through the filtering process, and that light red, filtered blood is then pumped back into my body, leaving me with super clean, purified blood. So, what's the point of all this and why would people want to do this? So the point of this exact protocol that I underwent in the Instagram Live video is typically performed to purify the blood as much as possible, starting with a big bone marrow aspiration, where they concentrate the stem cells from the bone marrow for the treatment. The best candidates for a procedure like this are people who may be experiencing chronic arthritic pain or people who don't even want to get to that point as a preventative measure. A couple of benefits noted from the procedure were an improvement in sleep, faster recovery post-workout, as well as improved sexual experience in terms of firmness of the erection, the orgasm, etc. And, of course, the big one is improving on the present pain whether it's in your neck, back, or elsewhere. It's a game-changer for people who are in a lot of pain and just want to get back to feeling like they did when they were younger. It's like an oil change for the body, completely non-invasive, pain-free, and easy to do. So without further adieu, let's meet the doctors at Docere Clinics behind this stem cell makeover, Dr. Harry Adelson and Dr. Amy Killen. In this episode, you'll discover: -How Dr. Adelson became involved in stem cell therapy... -How the stem cell industry continues to evolve... -The stem cell therapy sequence... -Why people would seek stem cell therapy... -Aesthetic and sexual effects of Amy's portion of the treatment... -How you feel after the procedure... -Does it matter where the stem cells come from?... -Biohacks to stack with stem cell therapy... -Costs for the treatment... -How to find out more about Docere Clinics... -And much more!
