How the 5 Love Languages will Transform Your Relationships with Dr Gary Chapman

Have you ever tried showing a loved one, friend or family member how important they are to you but it just doesn’t seem to work? Or, have you ever found yourself wondering if they really care for you as much as you’d like because you’re just not feeling it, or because it seems like they’re not doing the things that you think are the signs of love.

What if they have been showing you love but you’ve been missing it? And, what if you’re attempts to show others love hasn’t been working the way you want it to because they’ve been missing it?

Today’s guest has the answer. Dr. Gary Chapman is the author of the 5 Love Languages which has been a New York Times bestseller for 8 years straight and has sold over 12 million copies. Through his work, Dr. Gary Chapman has helped millions of people restore marriages, families and relationship across the world by helping them understand the different ways love is expressed and received.

Some things Dr Gary Chapman and I talk about are below:

  • With all the success of the book, is there a moment of pride when it comes to the journey?
  • Was it quite obvious to see the five love languages, or was it hard to depict?
  • Dr Gary Chapman describes the five love languages.
o Gifts – The giving of gifts, the universal display of life.
o Physical contact – The emotional power of touch. E.g. Holding hands. Physical contact.
o Time – Giving the person your undivided attention. E.g. Talking to each other without any distraction.
o Service – Doing something for the other person that you know they would like for you to do. E.g. cooking a meal. Cleaning the house.
o Words of affirmation – Using words to affirm the other person. E.g. You look nice in that outfit. I really appreciate what you did. You know one of the things I like about you.

  • Where do we get our own love language?

  • If we are trying to express love to someone else, but it doesn’t seem to be working, could this be because we are reading their love language wrong?

  • The three different ways to find out your love language and that of your friends, family and partners.

  • Dr. Gary Chapman talks about his definition of doing life better.

  • Dr. Gary Chapman’s challenge of the week.
o Discover your own love language and the love language of the people in your circle, than choose to speak it.
