From the 1980s until his eventual capture in 2007, a notorious serial rapist and murderer was active in the Buffalo, New York area. Police had linked this man to three murders and numerous rapes, often attacking women along bike paths, which led to him being called “The Bike Path Killer or Rapist”. His arrest came after DNA evidence connected him to the crimes, leading to a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.
