Orlando Bloom Expresses Interest in Returning for the Next “Pirates of the Caribbean” Film

Fans of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise were thrilled when Orlando Bloom, who played the role of Will Turner in the first three films, recently expressed his interest in returning for the sixth film of the swashbuckling adventure franchise.

During a recent interview with Parade, Bloom shared his thoughts on potentially revisiting the character of Will Turner, saying, “I wouldn’t mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it’d be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he’s like.”

Bloom first portrayed the character in the franchise’s first film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” in 2003. The character was initially depicted in the film as a blacksmith’s apprentice working in Port Royal, Jamaica, who embarks on a life-changing adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, after the love of his life, Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley, is kidnapped by pirates.

Bloom returned as Will Turner in the franchise’s second and third films, “Dead Man’s Chest” and “At World’s End,” respectively. In these films, Will replaces Davy Jones as the immortal captain of the Flying Dutchman. This plot point was revisited in the franchise’s fifth film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” in which Will and Elizabeth’s son, Henry, played by Brenton Thwaites, seeks the Trident of Poseidon to destroy it and break all curses imposed by the sea, including the one that binds his father to the Dutchman.

Bloom also made a brief cameo in the franchise’s fifth film, including the film’s post-credits scene, which teased a potential sixth film involving the return of Davy Jones.

Should Disney move forward with “Pirates of the Caribbean 6,” which has been in various stages of development since 2011, it could be a family affair with Brenton Thwaites also expressing interest in returning for a sixth film or spinoff.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” remains one of Disney’s most successful film franchises, with all installments grossing over $650 million worldwide. It was also the first franchise to have two films, “Dead Man’s Chest” and “On Stranger Tides,” gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

The franchise even crossed over with the open-world video game “Sea of Thieves” in 2021 with a free expansion that included a new original story featuring Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. The original 1967 theme park from which the films are derived continues to operate at Disneyland.

As fans eagerly await the return of the beloved “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, the potential return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner has only added to the excitement surrounding the upcoming sixth film.

James Gunn Pledges Better Working Conditions for VFX Artists at DC Studios

James Gunn Pledges Better Working Conditions for VFX Artists at DC Studios

As DC Studios prepares to kick off Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, fans are eagerly awaiting the new lineup of films and shows, starting with Creature Commandos in December. But alongside the excitement, there are concerns about how VFX artists are treated in the industry. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, recently addressed these concerns by promising better working conditions for these crucial artists. In a recent post on Threads, Gunn assured fans that DC Studios is committed to giving VFX artists the time and respect they need to do their best work. "If you do some research you'll see my films have always taken a different approach and I've always given my VFX artist-collaborators time to do their jobs properly, and the respect they deserve," Gunn explained. He also praised the teams at Weta, Framestore, and ILM for their talent and dedication. The first film in DC Studios' new slate is Superman, directed by Gunn, which finished production last month. With a release date set for July 11, 2025, Gunn explained that they wrapped early to give VFX artists plenty of time to work without the usual last-minute rush. "This is why we wrapped on Superman a year before release and why they've been hard at work on many shots for months before that," Gunn said. He added that other projects, like Supergirl, are being handled with the same level of care. CGI has come a long way in superhero movies. Early films like Superman (1978) and Batman Forever (1995) used basic CGI, which was impressive at the time but limited by the technology. By the 2000s, movies like Spider-Man (2002) and X-Men (2000) started pushing the boundaries with more realistic effects, but this often came at the cost of long hours and intense pressure on VFX teams. Today, CGI in superhero movies is incredibly advanced, with characters and scenes that look almost real. However, the demand for high-quality effects often means VFX artists face tight schedules and heavy workloads, which has led to increasing calls for better treatment in the industry. James Gunn’s recent statements suggest that DC Studios is taking steps to address these issues and avoid the problems that have plagued other studios.
