US Copyright Office Rules on A.I. Art in Comic Book Copyright Case

The Greg Berlanti Green Lantern series development has been scrapped, and a new series called “Lanterns” is being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of DC Studios. The previous Green Lantern series was to be based on a space opera, while the new series is described as a “True Detective”-style terrestrial-based investigation. The Green Lantern series was expensive with multiple stories but was eventually reduced to focus on Alan Scott and Guy Gardner. The cast was then scrapped, and a new direction was decided to focus on John Stewart. The new series is seen as a “foundational series” for the main story across film and TV, and the actors who play the Lanterns will also be seen in the movies. The series will allow for the exploration and development of characters, which is not possible in a movie. Gunn and Safran are already talking to actors about the new series, and the show will be a “huge HBO TV-style event”. Berlanti, who was previously involved in the Green Lantern series, has scaled back his DC shows and is unlikely to be involved in the new DC Studios. Paramount Global is rebranding its premium cable network Showtime as “Paramount+ with Showtime” in the US. The two brands will be integrated in the streaming world and Showtime content will be available on Paramount+’s premium tier. Chris McCarthy will lead the Showtime studio and oversee network operations while Tom Ryan will oversee the Paramount+ with Showtime streaming business. Jeffrey Dean Morgan teased fans of the Prime Video animated series “Invincible” by posting a photo on Instagram of him buying two comic book compendiums of the series, sparking speculation that he will join the show’s cast. Robert Kirkman, the co-creator and executive producer, was thanked in the caption, but Amazon Studios has not yet confirmed Morgan’s involvement. MoviePass is back in a very big way. This week they've launched their nationwide beta test. There's a lot of details in this. We're actually going to be trying this out ourselves and doing a full review on the podcast, The Geek Freaks podcast. So check that out, guys. But basically, you guys can return to the theaters using MoviePass nationwide now. X-Box and Bethesda had their developer direct, which showed off a few of the upcoming games. Most notable was basically gameplay for Minecraft legends, a new Elder Scrolls expansion and Red Fall. Nothing major here. They were just good little updates. They're kind of going with the Nintendo route and just doing more frequent updates. The special thing about this is that it was the developers themselves showing off their game. HBO Max has canceled the shows "Doom Patrol" and "Titans" and James Gunn has said this was not his doing and was planned months ago. It's disappointing as both these shows have a lot of fans. Tobey Maguire is willing to play Spider-Man again and the possibility of using both Tobey Maguire and Garfield in future Spider-Man movies. 343 Industries, the studio behind the Halo franchise, has denied rumors that it has been taken off of lead development of the Halo franchise and has stated that it will continue to "develop Halo now and in the future". This statement was made by the studio head Pierre Hintze on Twitter. The news follows the mass layoffs of 10,000 people at Microsoft, which saw a number of employees at Xbox Game Studios, The Coalition, 343 Industries, and Bethesda let go. Rumors then started swirling that 343 Industries would be taken off lead development of the Halo franchise and would instead help third-party studios bring Halo to life in the form of new games. Activision Blizzard, the publisher of Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft, has said that Chinese publisher NetEase declined a last-minute offer to extend their publishing deal in China. This means that services for games such as Overwatch 2, Hearthstone, and other Blizzard titles will be discontinued on January 23rd as planned. In November, the company announced that it was looking for alternative ways to bring its games to China but no further information has been revealed. As a result, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Warcraft III: Reforged, Overwatch 2, the StarCraft series, Diablo III, and Heroes of the Storm will no longer be playable in China. However, Diablo: Immortal, Blizzard’s mobile game, is published under a separate agreement and is unaffected at the moment.
