Late-night host Stephen Colbert has partnered with Skybound Entertainment and Vincent Newman Entertainment to develop a TV series based on Roger Zelazny’s The Chronicles of Amber, a fantasy series first published in 1970. The story follows a young man named Corwin, who has the ability to travel through different dimensions of reality and rules over the one true world, Amber. Fantasy author George R.R. Martin has expressed his desire for the series to be adapted for the screen for years and is not involved in the project. The European Parliament voted to adopt a report calling for the European Commission to address several issues in the games industry that it believes will better protect consumers, especially young people. The report was led by MEP Adriana Maldonado López and made more than a dozen recommendations, including harmonized rules across the European Union’s single market when providing clear information about games content and systems that help parents understand and control how much time and money their children spend on games. The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) age rating system was highlighted as an example of something that could deliver more transparent information about the content, target age group, and in-game purchase options to consumers. They also call for developers to “avoid designing games that feed an addiction,” and other actions recommended include prioritizing data protection, improving the gender imbalance in the industry’s workforce, and making it as easy for consumers to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up. The European Parliament also recognized the value of the video games sector, as well as its potential to help with education, mental health, and other aspects of life. A new report from Avatar News suggests that Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the world being built by Avatar Studios are related and that Netflix has the rights to adapt the characters and story of the show. The report also suggests that the relationship between Avatar Studios and Netflix is positive, but this has not been officially confirmed. The creators of the animated series, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, were originally attached to the live-action series at Netflix, but they announced their departure two years into the development of the show. Ubisoft has updated its strategy for the near future, and in a new statement, has revealed that it has canceled three unannounced games and has delayed Skull and Bones yet again. Attributing this leaner focus on “major challenges” and an industry that it says is shifting towards “mega-brands and long-lasting titles,” Ubisoft says that its recent launches have not performed as well as expected. The company will now focus more of its efforts on building its current brands and live service titles and has revised its Q3 2022-23 net bookings target, which it now expects to reach approximately $779 million versus its prior target of approximately $831 million. The Batman director Matt Reeves is soon set to meet with co-CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss how their two universes, the DCU and the BatVerse, will be developed alongside each other. The BatVerse, led by The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, would become its own universe separate from the reworks currently happening at DC under its new leadership. The meeting will ensure the two universes don’t overlap, as Batman will presumably turn up in Gunn and Safran’s DCU too. Little is known about the new DCU so far, though a Young Superman movie is on the way and is a “huge priority” for DC Studios going forward. The BatVerse is already in full swing with at least three spin-off shows reportedly in development, a full film sequel in the works, and many other films based on Batman villains are in talks. Second Dinner, the developer of Marvel Snap, has announced that the long-awaited PVP Battle Mode will launch at the end of this month. The update will also include a new mechanic called Series Drop, which affects the rarity of cards and will make some Series 3, 4, and 5 cards 10 times more common in card drops and cheaper in the store. The Token Shop will also get improvements to card progression.
