Kara's story takes a remarkable turn when she steps in as a head chef at Heroes & Horses, run by Micah Fink. This experience became a crucial stepping stone in her life, leading her to embrace wildland firefighting, where she has just completed her first season on an engine team and now has aspirations to join a wildland helicopter attack team.

Kara openly discusses her embrace of psychedelics as a tool for healing and growth, sharing experiences from Ibogaine trips in Mexico, Peyote ceremonies with Native Americans, to Ayahuasca retreats with fellow first responders. Her commitment to suicide prevention and mental health advocacy in the wildland firefighting community is not just a career choice but a life's purpose.
