Ep. 433 - U.S. Navy SEALs arrested in Haiti

If you've been following Newsrep, or any news covering the special operations community for that matter, you're well aware of the arrest in Haiti of former U.S. Navy SEALs Chris Osman, Chris McKinley (who previously went by Chris Heben,) as well as former U.S. Marine Ken Kroeker. These three and several other men were hired as contractors in Haiti working security for the central bank. Due to the massive instability within the government there, matters were handled very poorly and you'll hear how this led to the arrest and eventual release of these men who are now back in the United States. We shoot down some of the wacky conspiracy theories going around since the news hit, and break down what we know so far. Following the discussion we get to our featured guest for Episode 433, Chief Master Sergeant Mike Lampe, a man who was there during the primitive years of Air Force special operations. Previously on Episode 391, Mike joined us to discuss his origin story and Vietnam service. This appearance we get into the next stages of his career, specifically his service in Desert One during the Iranian hostage crisis. As you'll hear though, we still have a lot more to cover in this man's career spanning three decades, so be on the lookout for a part 3. We hope you enjoy, and if you do, be sure to leave us a five-star review on Apple Podcasts.

Episode 498: Spec Ops fist fight in Iraq, manslaughter court-martial, & Raiders fighting for justice

Episode 498: Spec Ops fist fight in Iraq, manslaughter court-martial, & Raiders fighting for justice

In this episode we’re discussing a very serious and unfortunate event that took place on New Year’s Day 2019 in Iraq. Then, three Marine Raiders, Gunnery Sgt. Joshua Negron, Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Draher and Chief Petty Officer Eric Gilmet, were involved in an altercation with Mr Rick Rodriguez, a former Green Beret turned contractor, outside a nightclub. The altercation, unfortunately, resulted in the death of Mr Rodriguez. Now, the three Raiders face a court-martial for involuntary manslaughter, among other charges. We are joined by Fred Galvin, a retired Marine Raider officer of MARSOC FOX Company fame, Phillip Stackhouse, the attorney for Gunnery Sgt. Draher, and Bull Gurfein, CEO of United American Patriots, a legal defense fund for military personnel accused of war crimes. We request listeners to call and visit their representatives' office and urge their elected officials to join Congressman Louie Gohmert's efforts in the Justice For Warriors Caucus in defending the three MARSOC warriors: Gunnery Sergeant Draher, Gunnery Sergeant Negron and Chief Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman Gilmet from 3rd Marine Raider Battalion. Episode 495: SOFREP Radio classic with punk rock legend CJ Ramone

Episode 495: SOFREP Radio classic with punk rock legend CJ Ramone

Happy New Year! As we roll into 2020, take a look at one of our favorite episodes from the last year. This show is originally from Episode 413. If you read Brandon Webb's book "Mastering Fear," you may recall an awesome story from Ramones bass player and Marine, CJ Ramone. This is the interview that inspired that story. CJ joined us back on Episode 273, and we split that interview into two. The first half for SOFREP, second half for Brandon Webb's Power of Thought Podcast. Here is that great interview in it's entirety. CJ was fresh off of a tour with The Aquabats as we recorded this and was ramping up to go off to the UK for another tour. The guys talk their mutual love of travel and some of the great sites they've seen around the world. CJ's music is what allows him to travel so much, and he has a true appreciation for it. You'll hear about the trial by fire when he was asked to replace the legendary Dee Dee Ramone for rambunctious crowds not exactly thrilled to see a new member of The Ramones. His biggest fear? Running out of time, and you'll hear why. Remember to send in your questions to radio@sofrep.com for a chance to have them read on our show. If you haven’t already noticed, the new SOFREP website has been launched! We also have a ton of new SOFREP t-shirt designs available in our store. All of our content – including an additional article catalog of more than 12,000 gear reviews, SOF history pieces, and military aviation articles – have been consolidated into one completely redesigned site and mobile app, to include featured categories such as News, Gear, Media (video & podcasts), Team Room & member forums, Store, and the #1 Gear Club in America – Crate Club.
