That's what every life form on this planet has had to deal with - early life on Earth was hazardous and it posed some severe adaptation mechanisms on all that was to survive. Charles Darwin said in On the Origin of the Species: It is not the strongest or the most intelligent of the species that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.
