At Least I Am Not As Bad As That Town! Jesus Takes That Comparison Away from Us! Today, we are urged to focus our attention on the Gospel, despite its challenging words. The Lord reproves those who should know Him best, a message that applies to us as well. Within the Gospel, the Lord criticizes the towns where He spent a significant amount of time and where remarkable events and healings occurred. Even during Jesus’ adult life, these towns were central to His ministry. Let us heed the words the Lord uses for these towns. However, the Lord’s criticism is not limited to those specific towns; it extends to our present world and the Church we attend regularly. The Lord resides in the tabernacle, and in many ways, we should be among those who know Jesus best. Therefore, we must contemplate the significance of the Gospel for each of us individually and collectively. The Lord removes any comparisons we may make to measure our spirituality against others. Even if we think we are not as bad as the people of a particular town in today’s world, the Lord reminds us that those in other towns will fare better than us unless we repent. The message for today may be challenging, yet it holds paramount importance for all of us. Let us refrain from dismissing it with the thought that “at least we are not that bad.” Instead, let us embrace the difficulty and significance of the Gospel.
