A Story About Work Ethic | Mary "Granny" Witt Ep. 97

"I don't think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good."

Oprah Winfrey

Started from the bottom now we're here!

It's a phrase made popular by rapper Drake when his song "Started from the bottom" first dropped in 2013. The song glorifies the hustle, the drive and the work it takes to reap the benefits of success.

With so many people chanting the phrase and throwing their hands up in celebration, I couldn't help but wonder. Where is here?

You see, most of us don't know where we're going so we just settle for where we are.

Finding that destination and overall vision can be hard. While some say you need to know where you're going, I also argue that floating along through life while waiting to find your vision isn't useful either. Sometimes we just need to take that next step in order to find out where our path actually leads.

I can honestly say, regardless of where you are, there is an opportunity to move up or improve your life. The doors are all around us. We just need to open them and do what it takes to get through!

My guest today, Marie "Granny" Witt, knows all about finding that next level. Starting from humble beginnings, Granny shares the challenges of walking 8-miles a day to school, taking every opportunity she could to grow, and using her creativity and smarts to get the jobs she wanted.

This is a true "No Rain… No Rainbows" story on work ethic, patience, and persistence. Take a listen as Mary "Granny" Witt takes us from childhood to retirement and all the challenges she's faced along the way.

This will be just one of many topics I hope to unpack with Granny. I hope you appreciate the wisdom.
