182: The Dangers of Overwork and How to Get Your Life Back with Suzanne Falter

"The way you build a life that is balanced is to start with basic self-care and make it habitual." -Suzanne Falter

Working hard is one of the most admirable qualities a person can have. The hard-working are driven to meet their goals. But sometimes, that drive can reach an extreme point. There are those who work so much that they no longer have the energy to engage in healthy activities. There are those who spend most of their waking hours at work and not paying attention to the rest of their lives. This can lead to great physical stress and even terrible mental outcomes. And worst of all, working excessively is counterproductive to your success.

The Extremely Busy Woman's Guide to Self-Care author Suzanne Falter believed that she cannot have the life and the job she wants, which led her to a life of overworking yet not achieving her goals. But her life took a complete turn when her daughter suddenly died. Listen in as Suzanne shares a very valuable lesson she learned from her daughter's diary. Ted and Suzanne also discuss how to know if we are working way too much, why we should use the breaks and reassess ourselves, and what can we do to build a balanced life with self-care in our list of priorities.

It's true that there are things we cannot control, especially if we have obligations to fulfill. However, one thing we can control is our perception of our time and our health. If we look at time and health as precious resources, we'll be able to avoid the dangers of working too much. Tune in and discover the secret to having great fun, great energy, and a great life!
