Ep. 600 Monty Waldin interviews Pierluigi Bolla from Valdo Spumanti More about Pierluigi: Pierluigi Bolla, Chairman of Valdo Spumanti, was born in 1951 in Verona. Graduated in Economics and Business from the University of Verona, and he carries out industrial activities in the wine sector. He was a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Council of Province of Verona, National Vice President of Federvini, President of the Wine & Food Institute of New York. From 1983 to 1989: Chairman and CEO of F.lli Bolla SpA and from 1989 to 1995: Chairman of F.lli Bolla International Wines Inc. The Company was founded in 1926 by a group of local wine growers and in 1934 was acquired by the Bolla Family from Verona, already in the second generation of wine-markers in the region. In 1940 the company name was changed from "Società Anonima Vini Superiori" to Valdo Spumanti and started the production of high-quality sparkling wines. Finally, starting from 1960, with improvement in both quality and sales force, the presence of the Spumanti in both Italian restaurants and, afterwards, in the retail market, was being improved. Philosopher-winemaker Emilio manages wine production, while political journalist Theo oversees the winery’s business and commerce from his home in Naples. Market gardener Myrtha takes care of Foradori’s farming and gradual expansion. Together the three of them oversee the smooth running of the winery, supported constantly by their mother Elisabetta. Though Rainer sadly passed away in February 2009, his influence remains fundamental and today his ideas still continue to steer the development of the winery. Ep. 595 Monty Waldin interviews Luigi Rossi Luciani from Le Volpi Winery. More about Luigi Rossi Luciani and his Estate: The Monte Fasolo and Le Volpi estates are located within the Euganean Hills Regional Park and enclose about 250 acres of vineyards growing on volcanic soil (90 of which certified organic and all of the rest in conversion to organic), more than 5000 olive trees, producing an outstanding Colli Euganei DOP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, and dozens of hectares of woods with marked trails and paths. Destination and stop for walks and cycling excursions, with its breathtaking panorama, Monte Fasolo is a landmark in the naturalistic context of the Euganean Hills. The current owner, Luigi Rossi Luciani, a well-known entrepreneur in Padua, and his family have always had an ardent enthusiasm and affection for the area and about 15 years ago they decided to buy and totally restore Le Volpi Estate, directly producing organic wines and EVO. The estate is nowadays an elegant and quiet farmhouse with 14 rooms and a unique infinity pool over the vineyards. In 2017 Mr. Rossi Luciani together with a friend, Mr. Fausto Petagna, decided to buy the Monte Fasolo estate too, which is located just 5 minutes away from Le Volpi, right on the top of the Monte Fasolo hill. The winery had long been abandoned and needed a complete restoration. An impressive work has been done and nowadays the Monte Fasolo Winery is a jewel on the top of the Euganean hills, visiting the winery and walking through the 200 meters long underground cellar is a unique experience to remember! The vineyards are located between 200 and 400 meters asl, the varieties produced are mainly the typical wines from the Euganean Hills, an extremely vocated volcanic area, including,ì among the others Fior d’Arancio DOCG , Cabernet DOC, Merlot DOC and the Bordeaux blend Rosso dei Colli Euganei DOC and Metodo Classico Sparkling wines from different varieties such as Chardonnay, Incrocio Manzoni, Pinot Nero, Glera and Fior d’Arancio too, you really need to come and taste!
