In Italy, the table wine Tavernello is almost as widely recognized as pizza. The Tavernello brand has enjoyed thriving sales for over 30 years. In this episode, Monty Waldin meets SimonPietro Felice, General Manager at CAVIRO, the Italian wine coop behind Tavernello. In this episode, Monty Waldin speaks to Luca De Ferrari, whose family owns the Poderi Boscarelli winery in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano area of Tuscany. Luca talks to Monty about the vineyard soils of his area and how they affect the way Vino Nobile tastes. Luca presents their single-vineyard wine “Nocio,” named after a big walnut tree located on vineyard grounds. Monty and Luca also discuss the reputation of the Vino Nobile denomination in the market and presents a number of personal favorites in terms of food pairings with Vino Nobile.
