He's a legendary touring musician who has been called one of the greatest living songwriters by NPR and he has influenced musicians like Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. I caught up with him outside The Moroccan Lounge before a show and we discussed college house parties, DIY touring in the 90s, using the Dialer for free long distance calls and almost naming an album after my favorite sparkling water.
