The Bushfire Recovery effort: How are people doing?

Millions of you donated to help the bushfire victims. But have we helped the people that need it?

Before the pandemic the devastation and the smoke from the bush fires was all consuming.

Over 18.6 million hectares of land was burnt, 33 people were killed and almost 6,000 buildings were destroyed. Along with the personal pain it also caused a lot of political tension.

In just over two weeks we’re going to find out what people in one of the hardest hit areas are feeling about the response to the bushfire disaster when they go to the polls in the Eden Monaro By Election.

On todays episode we find out how people are doing on the ground, and how this might play out at the by election.

In Todays Headlines:

  • Former Atlanta police officer, charged with murder of Rayshard Brooks
  • Recruitment starts today for Australia’s most promising Covid-19 vaccine trial
  • Explosive leaked text messages see Labor branch stacking scandal turn ugly
  • Melbourne African community leader targeted with racist messages by South Australian Police Officer
  • Qantas cancels all international flights for months
  • UK PM Boris Johnson’s speaks lovingly about Australia before car crash

On Todays episode we ask: What is a by election? How will the bushfire recovery impact the upcoming by-election? Do people feel like they’re getting enough support? What is the social and mental impact this is having on people? Does the frustration with government still exist?
