Counting the cost?

In Luke 14, Jesus talks about the cost of following Him. He mentions hating our family and our own life, carrying our cross, and giving up everything we have to be taught by Him.

What does Jesus mean by giving up “everything”? Does He mean we give up every single thing? This was Catherine’s question, a recent caller to the radio program.

In this episode, I talk about calculating the cost. But it’s not some sort of super-commitment you need to make. No, the first thing Jesus really disciples us into is death and re-birth in Him. Then, as children of God, there’s a whole new reference point for finding value and worth!
