BONUS: When Bachelor Nation Declared Black Lives Matter (Sort Of)

A lot has happened in the weeks since then-police officer Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd. This horrifying event sparked mass protests against racism and police brutality, around the country and around the globe. Since then, arrests have been made, public schools have cut ties with police departments, white CEOs and Editors In Chief have been forced to step down, and famous reality TV stars have been fired. And it seems – maybe – that space has finally been opened up for anti-racist fans of The Bachelor franchise to not just demand real change, but actually get it. Bachelor alumni who often avoid politics on their feeds in favor of shilling products, were suddenly put in a position where they had to speak up or signal complicity. Their comments sections became spaces for full-blown debate. Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin had a candid, raw, difficult conversation about race on the official Bachelor podcast feed. Just days after a grassroots campaign for Bachelor diversity was launched and Rachel threatened to sever ties with the franchise altogether, “The Bachelor” named Matt James – the founder of nonprofit ABC Food Tours who was supposed to be a contestant on Clare Crawley’s season – as the first Black Bachelor. Because so much has been going on, we wanted to dedicate a whole podcast episode to diving a bit deeper into this current moment of Black Lives Matter activism, and how it is playing out in Bachelor Nation. First, we spoke to two of the Bachelor Diversity Campaign's co-creators, Ria Ali and friend of the pod Brett Vergara about the grassroots campaign that now has more than 100,000 signatures. Then we caught up with Rachel Lindsay, the morning that the news about Matt James becoming the franchise’s first Black Bachelor broke. Finally, Taylor Nolan, who has been an outspoken voice for change within The Bachelor franchise, shared some very practical advice for white people who want to be actively anti-racist. ‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 Finale: Love Is Not A Football Game

‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 Finale: Love Is Not A Football Game

The two-hour “Golden Bachelor” finale actually did bring Mel’s soporific journey to a relatively dramatic conclusion. In large part, this was thanks to Cindy, whose refusal to stay on the field like a good little football player and continue to compete for Mel’s (begrudgingly offered) companionship finally unleashed some real emotion in Mel. And that emotion? Anger and disdain. But this leaves Peg, whose more laidback approach to commitment and peppy personality proved to be a better fit for him Maybe there’s hope for a happy ending for this analytically minded guy after all! ‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 Fantasy Suites: Two Good, Great Women

It’s the penultimate episode of Mel’s Golden Bachelor journey, and the final two women are finally ready to ask him the hard questions. Like… “Are you even into me?” and “Are you really afraid of stingrays?” and “What’s wrong with you?” Mel, for his part, is gearing up to finally express his deepest emotions. He’s ready to finally reveal to Peg and Cindy that he thinks they are pretty great. And also pretty good. The only question is… will that be enough for them? Gerry Turner’s New ‘Golden’ Memoir Is Laced With Bitterness

Gerry Turner’s New ‘Golden’ Memoir Is Laced With Bitterness

OG Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner’s new memoir is here! “Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV,” dives into Gerry’s early life and career, as well as his marriage to his beloved Toni. But the lion’s share of the memoir is focused on “The Golden Bachelor”: his casting, the experience of filming, the women he met along the journey, the cursed Golden Wedding, and, of course, all of the ways in which his relationship with Theresa Nist was seemingly doomed from the jump. We go into the memoir’s juiciest claims and explore why Gerry still seems to feel so much bitterness towards his now ex-wife. ‘Love Is Blind’ S9 Reunion: Let Them Eat Shake(s)

Season 9 of “Love Is Blind” has finally come to a close, complete with an outdoor concert and some warmed-over revelations about post-filming shenanigans. ‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 WTA: Give Us The Lemon Bar Timeline w/Leslie Fhima

‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 WTA: Give Us The Lemon Bar Timeline w/Leslie Fhima

It’s Women Tell All time! Or at least… women tell… some? OG Golden Gal Leslie Fhima joined us to break down the incredibly tepid drama between the “Golden” season 2 crew. We saw Nicolle get called out in a very direct and measured way, some real audience love for Cheryl and Debbie, an extended Jared Freid cameo, Mel wearing greige, and yet no real accountability or explanation for The Lemon Bars Incident. Unacceptable. To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Visit https://podcastchoices.com/adchoices

‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 Hometowns: 3 Women, 0 Reassurances w/Lisa Belkin

‘Golden Bachelor’ S2 Hometowns: 3 Women, 0 Reassurances w/Lisa Belkin

Mel has three “great” women left, and it’s time to jet off to their hometowns: Las Vegas with Peg, Denver with Debbie, and Austin with Cindy. This tour of the metropolises of the American West may be exciting, but Mel remains stolidly underwhelmed. He meets the women’s families, and offers their daughters and siblings lukewarm reassurances about how he “likes” their loved one, specifically her “personality” or “energy.” But, he insists, he’s not ready to say he’s falling for any of them. Are we running out of time for Mel to level up? And how badly does he wish he’d never come to this cursed show?
