Chrissie Hodges: Grieving from OCD (#451)

In episode 451 I chat with Chrissie Hodges. Chrissie is a Peer Support specialist, founder of OCD Gamechangers, and Author of ‘Pure OCD: The Invisible Side of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder’. Chrissie was awarded the hero award at the 24th IOCDF conference in San Fran.

We discuss her new community, grieving from OCD, the points of grief in Chrissie’s OCD story (OCD onset, lost opportunities, love and sexual development, lost time, stigma), her grieving process, her difficulty of being involuntarily admitted to a mental health hospital, navigating anger in grief, self-compassion, figuring out who you are and what you want to do with your life as symptoms reduce, and much more. Hope it helps.

Disclaimer - This podcast is for exploratory purposes only. The Bergen format is still being studied, and the success rate against weekly therapy is yet to be tested. If you are in therapy with a licensed therapist who understands OCD, and is using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) you have the best treatment backed by decades of robust science whether you do that 1 hour a week, or in 3-week intensive. In episode 178 of The OCD Stories podcast I interviewed Dr Chad Brandt. Chad is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in treating anxiety based disorders. He works at the Houston OCD program. We talk about his experience of being a therapist on the Bergen format, facing scary things and why you are normal.
