Do you have to be the boss?

Often as horse riders and trainers when we come across a problem we can be told to just show them who's boss and make the horse do it, but is that really how we fix these issues? It doesn't factor in why the horse is saying no and assuming all no's are a challenge to our authority. And going even deeper, that challenging our authority is a bad thing. It doesn't factor in if the no is stemming from pain, they don't understand, they can't do what we are asking of them, they need a break or to finish, or if we are overfacing ourselves or the horse. In this episode we talk about what I teach my students instead.
