#267 - Alice Cooper Rob Zombie and Shock Rock

“That’s NOT how you eat a chili dog…”

The allure of SHOCK ROCK is, has been, and always will be the LIVE component of it; being at the show and viscerally experiencing all of the sights and sounds, in the flesh and in the moment. While many artists do also have lyrical subject matter which might make them eligible for placement in the SHOCK ROCK subgenre (see also “devil stuff”), the primary component to ensure proper “shock rock” cred is the LIVE concert experience, the actual SHOW!

Whether it’s spitting blood, breathing fire, or doing an onstage duet with a boa constrictor, the key to really selling (and properly enjoying) SHOCK ROCK is the actual concert experience itself (because THAT is what sells records…or used to anyway). And what better and more convenient way to illustrate this point than with a brief concert review of the ALICE COOPER/ROB ZOMBIE show that recently came through Atlanta on “Friday The 13th Eve” during the Freaks On Parade tour stop.
