Season 6: Episode 08: Nobu Matsuhisa

When I started Crazy Sexy Food, I wrote a list of dream guests I’d love to have on. If you’d seen it, you would have laughed and told me “Yeah Right!”.

So, when I got the call a couple weeks ago that Nobu Matsuhisa was in town to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nobu London Park Lane, and he was doing a select number of interviews and that CSF was in the running I could not believe it!

But here we are. And here I was, in this episode, sitting down with the man himself discussing his life in food, dealing with childhood trauma, setting up his business 50 years ago and his meeting with Robert De Niro.

Nobu is a gentle but very fun man. He was so incredibly open and hospitable; this really has been the greatest honour. He eloquently discussed the hardships in his life, namely when one of his restaurants burnt down and he lost everything. This in turn lead to depression and suicidal thoughts.

He managed to use his inner strength and family support to start again, and here we are, all these years later, and he’s still at the helm of the global empire!

This was an honour of the highest level, and being in Nobu’s presence is something I will never forget.
