The Belmont Mansion is haunted by a woman who knew devastating loss, Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen Cheatham. That's a lot of surnames because there were a lot of marriages. The mansion is located in Nashville and is now a part of the Belmont University Campus. This is an elaborate antebellum villa that served as a summer respite from the Louisiana heat. Like so many other asylums that started in the early 1800s, this was first a poor farm and then became an asylum, sanatorium and psychiatric hospital. At its height, the facility stretched out over 900 acres with 78 buildings, making it the largest psychiatric facility in America. Eloise became a decaying former mental hospital, but is today a haunted attraction with escape rooms and it hosts historical tours and paranormal investigations. The Bastille is a former jail that dates back to the Wild West and ran as a jail for nearly 70 years. The building has had many iterations after it closed as a jail. This was an art gallery, a restaurant, a bar and a nightclub. Today, it stands empty and in need of major renovations. This may or may not please the current residents of the building, the ghosts.
