The DEX space has seen a lot of changes since DeFi Summer. A lot of positive ones and some interesting experiments for sure. An OG in the DeFi space is Bancor who are working on their V3 protocol. Scaling has often been a major pain point of Ethereum, the largest smart contract platform. However, the future is going to be a hotbed of innovation as Layer 2 scaling solutions such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Metis and Boba have been on the rise. Today we sat down and caught up with Jagdeep Sidhu, a core developer for Syscoin and Bradley Stephenson, a Syscoin Foundation Board Member. We discussed Syscoin’s journey over the last few years and how they emphasized on identifying the direction for Syscoin and executing on it without rushing things to market. We also covered the various scaling solutions that are currently available such as zk rollups and optimistic rollups. Lastly, we dived into how despite the emergence of new and more attractive chains, Syscoin has evolved, continued to innovate and managed to stay true to their mission of becoming the scalable, suitable and secure blockchain for the future by leveraging the Bitcoin security model. The future is going to be a hotbed of innovation with centralized experiences and business models enhanced and made possible through decentralized infrastructures such as Syscoin that solve the scaling problem. The deployment of various scaling solutions has brought us an inch closer to on boarding the next wave of users to Ethereum. Today, we spoke with Will Harborne, an Ethereum OG whose worked on scaling Ethereum for years & also the Founder of DeversiFi, a layer 2 hub for DeFi built on top of StarkX, that allows users to trade, send funds, borrow & lend all without paying gas costs from your wallet. In the past couple of months, there’s been an explosion of DeFi projects. However, integrations between protocols are lacking and the current set of financial instruments are relatively simple compared to what we see in TradFi. One of these include, variable interest rates. Today, we got to talk to QiDao, one of the newer DeFi primitives that introduces fixed interest rates. Compared to variable interest rates, users can hold their debt for as long as they want and only have to pay a 0.5% repayment fee. This along with their ability to accept interest-bearing tokens as collateral brings new use-cases for interest bearing stablecoins and makes the protocol stand out from others. We also got to discuss the team’s inspiration in launching QiDao, the importance of decentralizing protocols as well as how it should be a collective goal to make DeFi easier to use.
