HEY FAM! I am absolutely pumped for this week’s episode of the Ryan Leckey Show. Why? Because we have not one… but TWO guests to kick off Pride Month!! For the first time in the history of this show, I was able to sit down with two icons of the Rainbow Alliance, Jennifer McClinton-Temple and David Pierson! They had a lot of important things to say during this PRIDEful month, so listen up! In this episode, Jennifer and David chatted about The Rainbow Alliance, which is a nonprofit that educates, supports, and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community. The Rainbow Alliance, founded in 2004, hosts a variety of events, from monthly dinners to happy hours to parades during Pride month in June. The mission of this nonprofit organization is to give a voice to the people in the community who typically don’t have one. Jennifer, David, and everyone else involved in The Rainbow Alliance want the LGBTQ+ community to know that it is okay to love who you are FOR who you are! We also got to chat about the beginning of Pride month, since pride plays a huge part in the mission of The Rainbow Alliance. Pride month commemorates the Stonewall Riots, when the police raided a gay bar in New York City. The LGBTQ+ community was sick of the constant discrimination and finally started to push back. This marks the beginning of this amazing community finding pride in who they are without the fear of hatred. Jennifer and David stress the importance of combating HATE with LOVE… love for ourselves AND each other. Hate is taught, not learned. The Rainbow Alliance has a wealth of resources for anyone who wants to know more about the community or even for those who are struggling with their identity. They encourage any LGBTQ+ member or even just an ally to participate in any of their events! In just a few weeks, this amazing nonprofit organization is hosting a Pride event that is open to the public! Join the community on Sunday June 25 in Wilkes Barre for a Pride parade that is sure to bring on the happy tears!
