The burden of caring for babies, sick friends and elderly parents - is it time to recast care work as a privilege? We discuss why women often find themselves in caring roles and how society really values it (or not).

Plus, our weekly recommendations which include two things to watch and one thing to listen to all weekend.

Time's Up For Coffee Colonics

Time's Up For Coffee Colonics

We're baaacckkk. Happy 2018 Outlouders. What a year we are going to have. First things first though...we need to discuss the Golden Globes. Specifically the fact that Oprah may be running for President in 2020. Mia thinks it’s a great idea, Holly not so much. Plus, Jessie spent a lot of time at the beach over the summer break and she’s feeling a bit bad about her body, so we’re here to fix it. And can’t stop picking up your phone? It could be fixed with a coffee colonic. Jokes. Maybe. We might need to ask Gwyneth about that. Last October, Mia, Jessie and Holly sat on a stage in Sydney and did their first ever live show. It was an awesome night. There was wine, chips and Mia even sang a song. And today is the day we finally release it into your ears. It’s not the full two hours...because you’ve got to be at the show to get that! But it’s a package of our favourite moments. Expect talk of millennial banter, botox and a lot of laughs. BONUS: The Year That Was #MeToo

We began the year watching a man who has been accused of sexual assault by no fewer than 13 women being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. We’ve ended in the middle of an earth-shifting #metoo movement, which has seen powerful men stripped of their untouchable status along with their honours and sometimes, their livelihoods. Rachel and Holly are joined by the face of our local #metoo movement, journalist, activist and feminist Tracey Spicer to talk about how 2017 became the year the world woke up to sexual harrasment. BONUS: The Year That Was Marriage Equality

2017 was the year Australia finally decided it was time to make it legal for same sex couples to marry and to say it’s been a long journey is an understatement. Placed in the “too hard” basket by both Labour and the Coalition for too long, we began it might not ever happen. What followed was possibly even more controversial - a non-binding postal vote. But, we got there in the end and just this month the first same sex couple got married. The former Prime Minister Tony Abbott was the leading face of the NO campaign but his sister, Sydney City Councillor Christine Forster, became a powerful voice for change and she joins us to look back on the year that was. BONUS: The Year Of Not Giving A F*ck

BONUS: The Year Of Not Giving A F*ck

2017 was the year where everyone decided it was time to give less f*cks. There were no f*cks podcasts, no f*cks Ted Talks, Mark Manson’s bestselling book The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck, Sarah Knight’s The Life Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F*ck and more. There really have been a lot less f*ck’s to give this year. But why is that the case? Join Rachel Corbett, Holly Wainwright and Jessie Stephens as they dissect the trend.
