With the squad decimated with injuries an incredibly young squad travelled down the M4 to take on the Royals. A goal at the end of each half settled it leaving questions about Okoye in goal but few questioned the young players effort or determination. Also on show was another youngster making his debut in Ishmael Kone transferred in from Canada and once again the reviews are mainly positive in reference to him. Also discussed was an interview with Ben Manga which appeared in Kicker Magazine and this might prove far more important moving than exiting this seasons FA Cup. Some normal nonsense ensued as Twitter crashed midway through, Justin kept asking about the food kiosks, Pete was very pleased with his IKEA joke and Carl was determined to let everyone know that after last weeks "Wedging" incident - that he had got free of this weeks car park! All the fan reaction to everything that the Millwall and Swansea performances were not, without a recognised first team midfielder in the squad the much maligned Gaspar and Bacuna worked really hard in the centre and Gaspar especially was a revelation. 3 at the back worked much better and a breakaway goal caps off a truly professional, hard working away performance and takes 3 points. However the injuries keep racking up and discuss the recurrent hamstring injuries, the other injuries and the suspensions and we all know we cant get carried away but most of all we focus on the warm glow of seeing a Watford side go out and put in a shift, show some character and we say well done to Slaven, the team and the away support that started 2023 in magnificent form! He had been to the press conference, was staying in a Swansea hotel overnight and wanted to share and emote with other Watford fans. Unfortunately Twitter Spaces made it very difficult for some people to hear him and even the recording did nt work - so we did the next best thing - we called him this morning as he was heading back up the M4 and got his take on things after the game and as we approach 2023. Part One of the post Swansea City 4-0 away defeat. This felt like "the straw that broke the camels back". Lot's of calls and lots of frustration from fans far and wide! We have a number of regulars building on themes of culture and ownership as we see a team bereft of midfielders as it was of effort, commitment and resilience. We also hear from Darren calling all the way from Australia who even from the other side of the planet suffers along with the rest of us and, along with pretty mch everyone on the podcast delivers a good line in swearing momentarily taking the "Sweary Trophy" down under , until we are finally able to get hold of podcast regular Alex King driving back with his Uncle who reclaims for the "Sweary Cup" for Ireland.
