Living in Alignment with Charisse M. Williams

Listeners, this week we have a conversation wit Charisse M. Williams.

A lawyer by training, Charisse worked in the nonprofit and social justice sectors for 25 years at organizations focused on human rights, education, criminal and juvenile justice reform issues. In her executive leadership roles, she consistently attained ambitious goals including launching program sites in new cities, raising millions of dollars and recruiting dozens of board members and volunteers.

Over the course of her career, Charisse has taught and facilitated retreats and workshops for adults and teens in settings as diverse as board rooms, juvenile detention centers, alcohol and drug rehab centers, and college and university campuses.

Her first stint as an entrepreneur was as a consultant. She eventually decided to embrace the role of “coach” because coaching is a partnership driven by her clients. She is at her absolute best helping others find their own answers while she offers facilitation, guidance, tools and resources.
In 2015 her personal health and wellness journey led me to become a certified yoga teacher. This began a new chapter in her quest to become a more mindful leader on and off the yoga mat. It is in part because of yoga, meditation, and other mindfulness practices that she has come to create the career and life of her dreams. Charisse no longer needs work/life balance, because she has something even better—alignment. Everything she does personally and professionally is aligned with her values, her gifts and her calling.

Charisse is destined to be a resource to others who are on a similar journey of personal and professional discovery and growth.

I truly enjoyed my conversation with Charisse, she is a fellow coach and we went to the same coaching school. Even though this interview was recorded before the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd (among all others), Charisse and I still talked about systemic racism and how women of color exist in the workplace.

Charisse and I cover a lot of things including:
  • Growing up in the south side of Chicago
  • How Charisse knew Michelle Obama
  • Embracing a non-linear life
  • Impostor syndrome
  • Systemic racism in the United States
  • Asking for help
