Episode 68: Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park- Roaring Campfire on a Chilly Night

This recording was gathered on a chilly night in early spring beside the campfire at my campsite in the Crystal Springs Campground in Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, Shasta County, California. A large deciduous tree had fallen across the trail not far from my campsite, and the park maintenance workers had cut out the section blocking the trail, which I used for firewood. I am not quite sure what kind of tree it was, but the wood, some of which was studded with acorns by busy acorn woodpeckers, burned nicely without a lot of loud snaps and pops, and the fire hissed as the moisture within the wood heated and escaped as steam.
