Growing up one of my all time favorite shows was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We called it "appointment television". I was spending time queuing up my VCR so I could record each episode. I'm joined by my childhood friends Mikey and Charles who are also super fans. We decided to space out our chats about the seasons since we wanted to give it a proper rewatch. Watching this movie was like cuddling up with a warm blanket. It's one of me and Jules' childhood faves and it was like going back in time seeing this again. It's hard to even put into words the range of emotions that came over me watching this story and delving into this incredible true story. While based on a true story of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 about a soccer team that crashed in the Andes mountains in 1972, the film was equally as compelling. We are finally talking one of my favorite films of the 90s, The Basketball Diaries. Based on the novel by Jim Carroll (which is amazing btw) and starring Leonardo DiCaprio in one of his best early performances. There are so many aspects that I love: the location, cinematography, and the voice overs blended into the story. I'm here to report that almost 30 years later I can say that I've seen Showgirls.
