Episode 9 - Health Literacy

It’s already the third episode of season two our Podcast! We discuss Health Literacy. Chris met our Literacy Lowdown guests during last month’s Health and Wellness Fair in Verdun. We talk to Riley from Collective Community Services, Kevin from the Anglo Family Council, and Meghan from YES Montreal about the services their organisations provide to improve health and wellness access for English-speakers in Quebec. We learn about the importance of community groups creating connections to provide better services and the connections between health and employment.

Wendy Seys joins us once again to talk about the health literacy toolkit created by Yamaska Literacy Council with their partners. Wendy tells us how individuals and healthcare providers can become more health literate to help each other.

Every two weeks our hosts Jaimie Cudmore and Chris Shee from Literacy Quebec explore topics around community building, lifelong learning and literacy for English-speakers in Quebec. In Quebec, for non-emergency health situation or related question you can call 811 to Info-Santé. Quebec Nurses evaluate your health situation and give advice based on your condition. Calling Info-Santé 811 often helps avoid going to a medical clinic or emergency room.
