California is considering a groundbreaking initiative, SB 49, which aims to line the state's extensive highways with solar panels. This plan, promoted by Environment California and The Ray, has the potential to generate one gigawatt of solar power, enough to power more than 270,000 homes. The bill, now on Governor Gavin Newsom's desk, gives the California Department of Transportation until the end of 2025 to evaluate the feasibility of installing solar panels alongside highways. Saudi Arabia is committing to reducing carbon emissions through a Circular Carbon Economy approach, with initiatives worth over $186 billion aimed at reaching net-zero emissions by 2060. They plan to use carbon capture and storage to continue using fossil fuels while mitigating emissions.

Finally, innovative electric roads are emerging as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to generate electricity from vehicles driving on the road. This electricity can power street lights and contribute to a smarter and more sustainable road network. Engineers are working on integrating this technology into the national energy supply.
