Cops and Robbers: “The Battle for North Hollywood” | MURDERISH Ep. 155

Within moments of opening the Bank of America branch on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood, California on the morning of February 28th, 1997, the staff’s worst fears were realized. Two men, later identified as Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Matasareanu, entered the bank wearing highly customized body armor. The men were armed with automatic weapons and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition. These were no ordinary thieves, and they were about to turn the streets of Los Angeles into a war zone, and in doing so, change American policing forever. The infamous shootout that ensued would leave two people dead, and numerous others badly injured. Follow Jami on Instagram & TikTok @JamiOnAir and join the Serial Streamers true crime TV club! Chicken Coop Murders - Serial Killer, Stewart Northcott | MURDERISH Ep. 038

Chicken Coop Murders - Serial Killer, Stewart Northcott | MURDERISH Ep. 038

In February of 1928, Stewart Northcott would commit his first known murder. He would go on to become a serial killer, who preyed on adolescent boys. Stewart lived on a chicken ranch in Wineville, CA (now named Mira Loma). The ranch would become a house of horrors for his victims, which included his own nephew. Shockingly, Stewart’s crimes became a family affair, with his mother playing a prominent role in carrying out the brutal slayings that occurred on the chicken ranch. The chicken coop murders have inspired movies and tv shows, and motivated a community to change its name in order to wash away the memories of what happened there.
