Sarah Ferris talks about Watching Two Detectives

On this week's episode of Crime Capsule, Benjamin Morris talks with producer extraordinaire Sarah Ferris of Evergreen Podcasts and her new show, Watching Two Detectives. About Watching Two Detectives Season One: "If Tomorrow Never Comes" In our gripping first season, "If Tomorrow Never Comes," we unravel the chilling and complex murder of Michael Furlong. Unlike any crime story you've heard, this case twists on its axis with developments so shocking, they'd be dismissed as too unbelievable for a Hollywood script. Scott Rogan and Peter Hogan are not just recounting the case; they're reopening the files with a personal connection that adds layers of depth and humanity to the narrative. Joined by the detective who led the investigation, Clive Ainly, this season offers unprecedented access to the people closest to the case. Michael's son Luke, who was only 11 at the time of his father's murder, and his ex-wife, Colleen, share their poignant journeys of seeking answers and closure. This isn't just a recounting of facts; it's an exploration of the ripple effects of a single act of violence. From the crime scene that shook the detectives to their core to the heart-wrenching irony of Michael's last gift to his ex-wife—a CD featuring Ronan Keating's "If Tomorrow Never Comes"—this season brings you closer to the case than ever before. Go beyond the headlines and the cold facts. Experience the human side of a true crime story, accompanied by those who lived through it. Hear directly from the detectives who worked the case and the family members still seeking answers. Just when you think you've understood the case, new revelations emerge, each more surprising than the last. Subscribe Now Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

NEW: Bill Thomas on Colonial Parkway Murders Update Pt 2

NEW: Bill Thomas on Colonial Parkway Murders Update Pt 2

UPDATE: Suspect Named in one of the Colonial Parkway Murders from the 1980s. Bill Thomas, the brother of victim Cathy Thomas, is back to discuss the latest update and suspect Alan W. Wilmer Sr., who died in 2017 at 63 years old. The Colonial Parkway murders are a series of unsolved killings that took place on a scenic road in Virginia, linking Yorktown and Jamestown, two historic places. The parkway preserves the natural and cultural beauty of the region and does not allow commercial vehicles or tolls. Drivers can admire the York and James Rivers and the changing seasons along the road. Bill Thomas, the brother of Cathy Thomas, one of the victims, has been fighting for justice and awareness. Crimemuseum.org reports that a serial killer may have killed eight people on the parkway, which is federal land. The FBI may get involved in the investigations, too. The killer went after couples or individuals who parked their cars in or near lover's lane spots. The victims were not robbed or sexually assaulted, indicating that the killer had a different reason. The police have questioned 150 suspects, but none of them fit the description of the killer. Sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWMlX8QXxUs 13NewsNow USA Today Learn more about your ad choices. Colonial Parkway Murders w/ Bill Thomas & Nic of True Crime Garage 2019 Pt 2

Colonial Parkway Murders w/ Bill Thomas & Nic of True Crime Garage 2019 Pt 2

With the news of a break in the Colonial Parkway Murders, I wanted to re-release an interview I conducted with Bill Thomas, brother of victim Cathy Thomas & Nic Edwards of the True Crime Garage podcast, where we discussed the case, which was at a standstill in 2019. Some essential facts about the Colonial Parkway are if you have never had the pleasure of driving it or experiencing it on a class trip. According to the National Park Service https://www.nps.gov/colo/parkway.htm The Colonial Parkway is a twenty-three mile scenic roadway stretching from the York River at Yorktown to the James River at Jamestown.  The road does it best to remind drivers of days past as the parkway does not allow semi trucks and is toll-free. As you meander though the parkway you are graced with beautiful views of the James and York rivers that run along the parkway. According to Triple A "redbuds and dogwoods decorate the roadway in spring, while fall brings an explosion of autumn colors” From an article in the Daily Press in 1990, the parkway is no place to be after dark ”At night, the mood changes. The trees form a tunnel of blackness, broken only if the moon is shining. There are no streetlights, no call boxes and no fast-food restaurants or convenience stores where a driver might find refuge in case of a breakdown”. The parkway is under the rangers' jurisdiction because it is federal land owned by the National Park Service When a serious crime is committed, the York County Sheriff's Department, the Williamsburg or James City police departments are called to assist, Neprash said.  The parkway is federal land, the FBI may also become involved in investigations. Crimemuseum.org says, "police have questioned 150 suspects in connection to these four cases, but all have been cleared.  The police attribute these eight murders to the same killer because of similarities in each case.  All of the victims were killed at or near their car, the first three being found at known lover’s lane areas.  None of the victims were robbed, and sexual assault did not appear to be a motive in any of the cases.  The first and third murders were mere miles apart, and the second and fourth were committed about a half hour away from the Parkway. In 2018, the Facebook page Colonial Parkway Murders, which is run by Cathy’s brother Bill Thomas, and today's guest revealed that DNA had been found at 3 of the 4 crime scenes which could potentially conclusively link the cases and lead to an arrest. Hair that had been found in Cathy’s hand and a biological sample found on Robin have never been tested The First couple to fall victim Cathy Thomas and Rebecca Dowski  Cathleen Thomas, 27, Class of 1981 graduate United States Naval Academy and College of William & Mary senior Rebecca Ann Dowski, 21.
