Gautam Baid | Best Selling Author: The Joys of Compounding

My guest is the best-selling author Gautam Baid, CFA. He is the Managing Partner and Fund Manager of Stellar Wealth Partners India Fund.

The fund is modeled after the Buffett Partnership fee structure and invests in listed Indian equities with a long-term, fundamental, and value-oriented approach.

Previously, Gautam served as Portfolio Manager at Summit Global Investments, an SEC-registered investment advisor based in Salt Lake City, USA. Before that, he served at the Mumbai, London, and Hong Kong offices of Citigroup and Deutsche Bank as Senior Analyst in their investment banking teams.

Gautam is the author of the international best-seller on value investing, The Joys of Compounding. He is a CFA charterholder and member of CFA Institute, USA; an MBA in Finance from Nirma University, India; and an MS in Finance from ICFAI University, India.

Gautam's views and opinions have been published on various forums in print, digital, and social media. In 2018 and 2019, he was profiled in Morningstar’s Learn from the Masters series.

We will talk about:

1) Gautam’s journey from India to the US, and his passion for investing

2) The importance of reading and writing in investing success.

3) Why value investing principles are timeless

4) The attitude towards material wealth

5) The nature and benefits of deferred gratification

6) Luck, chance, serendipity, randomness and their role in our lives and investing.

7) The notion that you can borrow someone’s investment idea, but you can’t borrow their conviction.

8) Thoughts on investing in India.

Gautam is an avid reader, and if you are still wanting more after the interview, and the book, as I was, I highly recommend browsing through his reading list that his shares on his website and Goodreads.
