17. The Nagoya Maternity Murder: A Chilling Unsolved Mystery

This chilling unsolved case from Japan, dating back over thirty years, remains one of the country's most horrifying crimes. On March 18, 1988, Masataka Moriya returned to his Nagoya apartment to find his pregnant wife, Miiko, dead with a large incision on her abdomen. A newborn baby, weak but alive, had been removed from her womb, and a phone, attached to a Mickey Mouse keychain, was discovered inside her abdomen. Despite a massive police investigation involving 40,000 officers, no perpetrator was ever identified.

Suspicion initially fell on Miiko's husband and a visitor, Sadako Tamura, but both had alibis. Witnesses reported seeing two unknown men near the building on the day of the murder, though neither seemed to be connected to the crime. The police speculated that the perpetrator might have been trying to save the baby after killing Miiko, but key details—such as the placement of the phone and the bizarre keychain—remain unexplained. Over time, the case reached its statute of limitations, leaving the murder unsolved and its details shrouded in mystery. Today, Miiko's son, who survived the gruesome ordeal, lives in Hawaii, unaware of the horrific circumstances of his birth.
