Ep.514: North Face Climber and Alpine Start Coffee Founder - Matt Segal

Growing up, Matt was an unlikely candidate to become a professional climber. Mostly because the southern beaches of Florida were his home. However, early on he showed promising climbing ability and began competing all over the country and world.

After moving out to Colorado he began doing things very few climbers were doing, garnering the attention of The North Face. He signed with them and did climbs and expeditions all over the world. Noticing the lack of quality coffee on the market for backcountry sports, Matt’s mind began working.

When back home in Colorado he would experiment with instant coffee combinations until he was satisfied. After talking his sister and some friends into going in with him, they started Alpine Start, the premier instant coffee for backpackers, climbers, and anyone in the adventure sports world.

Today we’re talking to Matt about his story and how he balancing life on the rock and life in the business world.

Ep. 848: History-Based Ultrarunning - Todd Aydelotte

Todd Aydelotte is considered a “Historical Ultrarunner”. He runs ultra-marathons that follow the paths of historical people and significant events. From running to the important locations of Edgar Allen Poe’s life to the locations of a series murders committed by a serial killer, Todd is fascinated and moved (literally) by history. In today’s conversation, we’re talking about Todd’s annual underground ultrarun that he organizes; The Warriors Ultra-Run. One his website, it’s described as “an overnight running experience that carries runners over 28 miles as they recreate the escape route from the iconic 1979 film by Walter Hill. After attending a 1 AM Conclave, held at a secret location in the Bronx, runners dressed as gang members pass iconic shooting sights as they race for Coney Island”Learn more and sign up for the Warriors Ultra Run here: thewarriorsultra.comIG: @toddaydelotteGet 15% off your first order of Gnarly Nutrition by using the code gnarlyadventure15 at gognarly.com.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 843: Business Owner, Ultrarunner, and Full-Time RVing With Family of 5 - Revisited - Caleb Simpson

Ep. 843: Business Owner, Ultrarunner, and Full-Time RVing With Family of 5 - Revisited - Caleb Simpson

Originally aired on February 01, 2019When Caleb sold his previous business, Bearded Brothers, his wife, Kristy, had the crazy idea of being debt-free and living in an RV full-time. Everyone around them thought they were nuts! Nearly 4 years into their journey, a lot of the people who called them crazy are now jealous of their freedom, lack of “stuff”, and ability to go where the wind takes them.  Caleb and Kristy are both small business owners who are able to operate their businesses out of the compact dwelling space. They have no end to their adventure in sight but admit that RV living with three kids and running businesses absolutely has its unique challenges, but it’s a tradeoff compared with a normal route in life.Caleb is also an avid ultrarunner, taking the home and family to races all over the country. Instead of having to go to a stale hotel room after a long race, he can walk right into his house.  Pretty cool!https://www.instagram.com/freedomintow/https://www.instagram.com/hemp_daddys/?hl=enhttps://hempdaddys.com/http://www.freedomintow.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
