We're back in New York after a whirlwind few days in London for King Charles Coronation culminating in last night's blowout concert where Katy Perry brought the house down. But even the stars on the stage couldn't outshine the little royals in the audience who clearly know all the words to Katy Perry's songs! And, if you've lost count of how many mass shootings have happened so far this year, you're not alone. It's a sad commentary in today's times. The latest shooting came this weekend at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas where a gunman, clad in body armor, opened fire with an automatic rifle on shoppers. Eight were killed along with the gunman by a cop who just happened to be there. As Jim Moret reports, the gunman was wearing a patch that symbolizes a right-wing death squad. Plus, according to reports, a grand jury may be meeting today to decide if any charges will be brought in connection with that death on a New York City subway. Meantime a group upset about the killing of a subway performer by a Marine veteran decided to assemble 'on' the subway tracks themselves … a move officials called dangerous and reckless. The Marine veteran claims he was acting defense of himself and other passengers. Les Trent has details, and we warn you this story contains upsetting video. And, closing arguments today in the civil rape trial against former President Donald Trump with E. Jean Carroll's attorney saying she was 'exactly his type.' Although, the judge gave Trump until 5pm yesterday to say he would testify, the deadline passed with no word from the former president. Inside Edition reports…It’s the day after the attack on the U.S. Capitol and there remains stunned disbelief over the unprecedented incursion into the seat of American democracy. There are also a lot of questions about President Trump’s role, the failure of security to protect the Capitol, and why so few people have been arrested. The rioters who were inside the Senate chamber and congressional offices are being called out for, as one senator put it, desecrating a sacred place. The attack on the Capitol is being called one of the darkest days in our history and the whole world is watching with a number of nations gloating over seeing our democracy being threatened. And quick-thinking congressional aides rescued the Electoral College ballot boxes moments before the mob entered the Senate chamber. Now they’re being celebrated for saving the day. Inside Edition reports…The holidays have seen post-pandemic record numbers of people traveling and what was meant to be a sweet way to boost spirits during Christmas has turned out to be a super spreader event at a California hospital. The fallout and anger continue over that hour-long call President Trump had with Georgia’s Republican secretary of state in which the president pressured the official to find enough votes to put Georgia in the win column.
