The Journey of a Clinical Psychologist: Meet Dr. Robyn L. Gobin

The Journey of a Clinical Psychologist: Meet Dr. Robyn L. Gobin

Dr. Robyn L. Gobin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She is a nationally recognized expert on interpersonal trauma, women's mental health, and the cultural context of trauma recovery in the African American community. Her latest book, "The Self-Care Prescription: Powerful Solutions to Manage Stress, Reduce Anxiety, and Enhance Well-Being" aims to change the narrative around mental health and self-care in communities of color and teach people how to incorporate self-care into their busy lives in a sustainable way. In addition to pointers on self-care, Dr. Gobin also shares a few points she's learned on her professional journey: 1. Attending summer programs in high school and college can be extremely helpful in helping students figure out what they want to study. 2. The difference between Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) and Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) programs. 3. The importance of mentors. Dr. Gobin almost took a more costly route to getting her doctorate degree when a mentor advised her to reconsider. 4. The necessity of having self-awareness and knowing what works best for you. This will help you to know when to disregard or follow recommendations others make. To learn more about her book and purchase your copy, visit Amazon or www.selfcareprescriptions.com. If you're in the Atlanta area, you can also attend a FREE workshop on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Get the workshop details here. Connect with Dr. Gobin!
