Building a Coaching Business with Tim Hagen & Massimo Backus

Building a Coaching Business with Tim Hagen & Massimo Backus

Andy welcomes guests Tim Hagen and Massimo Backus to the show. Tim, Massimo, and Andy have all built businesses, and they decided to do this episode together to talk about the keys to building a successful business in the learning and development and talent development worlds.

Massimo Backus was previously a practitioner in corporate L&D and organizational development and left his job two years ago to go out on his own as an executive coach and leadership development consultant.

Tim Hagen is the head of progress coaching, which is a company that works with organizations to help get their people to do better coaching. Tim is a coach, but he’s focused on how to get your managers coaching better. Tim’s been running his business for more than 25 years.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  1. Why Tim Hagen decided to start his own coaching business and how Massimo made the transition to entrepreneurship.
  2. How interactions with internal colleagues matter even before you start your own business.
  3. The reason you can’t be afraid of selling when you own your own business and why sales are vital to your success.
  4. What telling the truth can do for the reputation of your business along with the power of storytelling.
  5. The current environment of the coaching industry and how Tim and Massimo differentiate themselves in that space.
  6. Massimo and Tim’s advice to keep in mind when starting your own business in this industry.
