Wings Falling Back to Earth? and Prospect Roundup ft. Max Bultman - Jan. 22nd, 2025

Is the Todd McLellan new coach bump over for the Detroit Red Wings?

Tune in as we're joined on this remote episode by Max Bultman of The Athletic Detroit (00:00) - we begin with a recap of Detroit's 2-1 overtime loss to Tortorella & Michkov's Philadelphia Flyers, including a nice goal from Ben Chiarot & Lucas Raymond, strong play from Alex Lyon, missed offense from Patrick Kane, Dylan Larkin, & others, Elmer Soderblom's season debut, & more (5:30). We then discuss the overall road trip for Steve Yzerman's squad, whether they're crashing back to their Derek Lalonde days or if there is still sustained improvement, if a tank is on for Misa, Hagens, or others (& if that's even possible with players like Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, Alex DeBrincat, Raymond, Larkin, etc.), and if the Hockeytown squad is destined for the Stanley Cup Playoffs or the NHL Trade Deadline (14:30).

Next, an update on what we saw from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, including Elmer Soderblom's improved season, Austin Watson's impact, Nate Danielson, Shai Buium, Sebastian Cossa, as well as more prospect updates on Dmitri Buchelnikov and Emmitt Finnie (37:30).

Finally, NHL news including the Connor McDavid - Connor Garland suspension, whether Erik Karlsson being on the block makes sense for any team to trade for, & more (1:02:00) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:12:55) - enjoy!
