Episode 004 | The Root of the Foundation ~ Relaxation

In today's episode Colton gets to the root of the foundation.
Relaxation. Yeah, that sounds nice doesn't it?
So often we see tight, tense, worried, unfocused horses that go through life never really reaching their full potential, perhaps experiencing other set backs such as injury along the way and oftentimes collecting a bad reputation for their difficulty or quirks that 'must be put up with'. We've all seen and heard it more than once. Oh yeah, and you've also probably seen similar instances with the people around you in your lives or maybe right in your own life.
Does it really have to be this way? No.
Should it be this way? No.
Yes many of us ask a lot of our horses or will at some point in their lives. That is perfectly fine- as long as they have been properly prepared.
Part of that preparation is teaching the horse how they can relax in stressful situations. Some will say that they should not be put in stressful situations, but lets be real. Life is unpredictable and we need to do our best to prepare they for how to handle the unexpected.
So where do we start? Well it starts with us as leaders. It then touches all aspects of our horses lives mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It can be a state of mind but also a way of living and being. Relaxation will enhance and give us further opportunities to build that confidence and trust our horse's have in us. And when it comes to living a sound life- relaxation is an absolute must.
