Populism

The Eurospeak Podcast S1 EP3 - Populism

On this episode, BJ goes political, and explores the nature and dynamics of populist politics, historically, and in our time. It begins with a recounting of the life of Tiberius Gracchus, whose populist policies contributed to his rise to the position of Tribune in the Ancient Roman Republic, and whose downfall resulted from a tragic miscommunication. The episode then shifts to an examination of populism at present, and features the perspectives of experts and academics sharing their insights on the topic.

The recordings you will hear are from a panel discussion that took place in September 2019 and was organized by the European Studies Association of the Philippines, the Philippine International Studies Organization, the Department of European Languages of the University of the Philippines Diliman, and the European Studies Program of the Ateneo de Manila University. The following individuals participated in the panel:

  • Ivy Claudio (University of the Philippines Mass Communication)
  • Jeconiah Dreisbach (Asian Institute of Management and De La Salle University, Philippines)
  • Jeric Tionloc (Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines)
