Engineering Innovations: How Purdue ECE is Shaping the Future of Quantum and AI

In this episode of Engineering Innovations, host Kristin Malavenda interviews Milind Kulkarni, the Michael and Katherine Birck Head of Purdue's Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. They discuss the transformative changes the department has experienced over the past year, including record-high graduate program rankings, increased research activity in AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing, and the Purdue Computes initiative. Kulkarni highlights the impact of hiring new faculty, the introduction of new minors and concentrations for students, the expansion of online educational offerings, and the challenges of growth while maintaining quality. They also touch on the implications of the new Indianapolis campus and the upcoming ECE facility improvements. Looking ahead, Kulkarni is excited about further growth in student enrollment, new research initiatives, and opportunities in entrepreneurship and national technological priorities.
