Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell

"OFFICER SHOT. WHITE CHEVY VAN. NO PLATE."

In the early morning hours of 27 October 2006, Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office told dispatchers that he was pulling over a white Chevy van off of rural Highway 16. Seven minutes later, his radio "keyed," a common sign of distress. After failing to respond to calls on his radio and cell phone, dispatchers sent out other deputies to Mitchell's last known location with lights and sirens.

Arriving just minutes later, officers found Deputy Mitchell laying on the ground near his vehicle, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the head. As they'd soon learn, he'd been shot with his own weapon during a "significant struggle" with an unknown person...

The Brabant Killers (Part One: 1982)

The Brabant Killers (Part One: 1982)

In 1982, a group of offenders began striking the Brussels area of Belgium. It began with a series of small robberies, but - by the end of the year - had progressed to full-blown murder. Though their criminal career was still in its apparent infancy, the Brabant Killers - also known as the Brabant Gang and the Gang Of Nivelles - would go on to become Belgium's most violent and mysterious criminals. Over thirty years later, their identities and motives are still unknown.Part one of five. Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic and production by T. NordgrenAdditional editing by Elias at e-Audio ProductionsLearn more about the podcast at unresolved.me Sponsors- Head to harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's trial shave set- Head to Sudio Sweden and use offer code "UNRESOLVED15" to save 15% on any pair of headphones Additional music:Dee Yan-Kee - "Andante - Vivace"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

Bible John

Bible John

In February of 1968, 25-year old Patricia Docker visited the Barrowland Ballroom on a Thursday evening, leaving her son in the care of her parents. She was estranged from her husband but still legally married, so she didn't tell anyone her apparent destination, for fear of judgment. You see, Thursday nights at the Barrowland Ballroom came with a reputation. Some of the Thursday patrons were adulterers, looking for a night of fun away from the stresses of everyday life. One killer used this reputation to his advantage. In addition to Docker, this killer also claimed the lives of two more women: 32-year old Jemima McDonald in August of 1969, and 29-year old Helen Puttock just two months later in the latter days of October.Despite unique details about the suspect being released to the public, as well as one of the most intricate sketches in Scottish history, the identity of the figure named "Bible John" has remained a mystery for the ages.  Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.me  Written by Robert Cron Hosted, produced, and additional writing by Micheal Whelan Additional music and production by T. Nordgren Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

Chase Massner (Update #2)

In March of 2014, 26-year old Chase Massner disappeared. Chase, an Iraqi war veteran who was married with two kids, was last seen at the home of his friend, named Brad Clement. Because of the content, this will likely be the last update I make on the story for quite some time.  Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan. Music by T. Nordgren. Additional music provided by Ailsa Traves.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Alcasser Girls (Part Five: The Trial)

The Alcasser Girls (Part Five: The Trial)

By 1997, Miguel Ricart had been a prisoner of the Spanish Civil Guard for over four years. He had been in their custody since January of 1993, awaiting trial for the murder of three teenage girls from Alcasser. Ricart would find an unlikely ally in one of the victim's parents, Fernando Garcia. Garcia wasn't interested in saving Miguel's life; rather, he was concerned that the prosecutor had developed tunnel vision on Miguel, and ignored any other potential leads or clues. In this episode, I focus on everything that happened after the initial police investigation, including the trial of Miguel Ricart, Fernando Garcia's partnership with an esteemed true crime author, and the theories that have cropped up in the decades since.  Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.meWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic and production by T. Nordgren Additional music provided by: Parvus Decree - "Thoughts About Future"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Alcasser Girls (Part Four: The Truth)

The Alcasser Girls (Part Four: The Truth)

It has now been weeks since the bodies of Toni Gomez Rodriguez, Desiree Hernandez Folch, and Miriam Garcia Iborra were found in the Spanish hills of La Romana. One suspect has been in custody for over a month, while the other has escaped justice... seemingly forever. Miguel Ricart confesses to the rape, torture, and murder of the three teenage victims multiple times, but his confessions always contrast in stark details. More often than not, his confessions line up with what police knew at the time, based off of the autopsies of the victims and their exhaustive investigation. But each subsequent confession painted a muddled picture: one that gives credence to Miguel Ricart's later claims that the confessions were coerced. This episodes explores how those confessions evolved over time - with and without police involvement. Part four of five. Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.meWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan. Music and production by T. Nordgren.  Additional music credits:Graham Bole - "We Are One"The Gateless Gate - "Endless Grey"Pipe Choir - "Fortress (Instrumental)"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Alcasser Girls (Part Three: The Fugitive)

The Alcasser Girls (Part Three: The Fugitive)

On January 27th, 1993, the bodies of Toni Gomez Rodriguez, Desiree Hernandez Folch, and Miriam Garcia Iborra were found. The Spanish teens, from a small town named Alcasser, had gone missing in November of 1992 under mysterious circumstances. Within hours of their discovery, police had a suspect in-mind. Hours after that, they had a full detailed confession, which the suspect - Miguel Ricart - claims was coerced. This confession pointed most of the blame at another man: one of Miguel's friends, a local drug dealer named Antonio Angles, who had recently been convicted for a violent offense and escaped from prison. This episode details the ongoing investigation, as it began to consider a second autopsy and further confessions from Miguel, and goes into the Spanish Civil Guard's hunt for Antonio Angles... who continued to outsmart them at every turn. Part three of five.  Learn more about the podcast at unresolved.meWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan Music and production by T. Nordgren  Additional music provided by: Soft And Furious - "Melancholic Ending" Marcos H. Chase Massner (Update)

In 2014, 26-year old Iraqi War Veteran Chase Massner disappeared while visiting a friend in Kennesaw, Georgia. He has not been seen since. I addressed his story back in May, when I spoke to Nancy Grace about the details of his disappearance and the theories that have cropped up since. Now, however, it appears that a body has been found in one of the locations he was last seen. Learn more about the Unresolved Podcast at unresolved.meWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Alcasser Girls (Part Two: The Investigation)

On January 27th, 1993, the bodies of three teenage girls were found in the mountainous region of La Romana, Spain. Investigators quickly surmised that these were the missing girls that had disappeared from Alcasser seventy-five days beforehand. Quickly, the investigation pieced together some evidence at the scene to produce a suspect. The clues began to paint a brutal picture of how the three girls met their fate, but many have critiqued this investigation for damaging the case forever. Part two of five.  Learn more about the podcast by visiting unresolved.meWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic and production by T. Nordgren Music credits:Lullabelle - "Somos Magneticos"Blue Dot Sessions - "Levanger"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
