Bonus Episode | Personalized Nutrition & Cultural Competency

Nutrition is core to human health. Differences in our biochemistry, metabolism, genetics, and microbiota all contribute to the dramatic differences among individuals in response to their nutrition, according to the American Nutrition Association. Personalized nutrition takes into account human individuality—such as health status and social, cultural, economic, and linguistic needs—to drive nutrition strategies that can prevent, manage, and treat disease and optimize a patient's health. Today we talk about personalized nutrition and cultural competency with Evelisse Capó, PharmD, Director of Culinary and Spanish Content for the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. The Campbell Center is a nonprofit committed to increasing awareness of the extraordinary impact that food has on the health of our bodies, our communities, and our planet. Dr. Capó is also a certified facilitator for the Physicians Committee’s Food for Life Program. She is presenting on nutrition and cultural competency at the org's International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine next month. Dr. Capó practices culinary medicine and plant-based coaching in her business The Food Pharmacy and Farmacia en la Cocina in Florida. She understands the role of nutrition in their chronic disease specialties and how you can prevent and reverse disease with a whole food plant-based lifestyle. ◘ Related content Dr. Capó's website https://www.thefoodpharmacy.com/ International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine 2021 July 15 - 17 https://bit.ly/3q307fG American Nutrition Association's Personalized Nutrition 2021 September 28 - October 1 https://bit.ly/3vuERR9 Center for Nutrition Studies https://nutritionstudies.org/ ◘ Transcript https://bit.ly/3zxtKdC ◘ This podcast features the song “Follow Your Dreams” (freemusicarchive.org/music/Scott_Ho…ur_Dreams_1918) by Scott Holmes, available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial (01https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) license. ◘ Disclaimer: The content and information shared in GW Integrative Medicine is for educational purposes only and should not be taken as medical advice.
