About today’s guest: With more than a decade’s experience in the wine trade, Victoria Mulu-Munywoki is the first Kenyan native sommelier and the founder of online store CELLAR254. She has diverse international corporate experience, lived and worked in six countries and is an independent wine consultant with the perfect combination of global expertise and extensive local knowledge. She works closely with producers and importers to create and grow the market for wines in Kenya and curated the wine lists for many of the top hotels, camps, lodges and restaurants across the country, where she also trains and mentors both staff and aspiring sommeliers. In 2017 Victoria launched the elite, Capital Club Wine Club and also co-runs the ABSA Social Wine Club. Through these clubs, she creates experiential and tourism opportunities for members; most recently on a trips to Spain & Italy. In this line, she also curates bespoke corporate and private wine events; focused on enhancing dining experiences, wine education and networking. In an effort to spread the gospel of wine to the general public, she started a weekly Wine Wednesday segment on Kenya’s CapitalFM radio station. In the 1950s, the architect Alberto Moretti Cuseri acquired the first 55 hectares of land directly from the princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina di Savoia d'Aosta, daughters of Prince Amedeo di Savoia, Duke of Aosta. In the 1990s, his son Antonio Moretti Cuseri took control of the estate and began his project in the world of wine, which led him to release his first label in 1998. Thus began the history of Tenuta Sette Ponti, which with the release of the first vintage of Oreno in 1999 soon reached the top of the world's most important wine rankings. In 2018, together with Antonio Moretti Cuseri, his sons Amedeo and Alberto started to take over the estates. Although my daily job was in a different industry, I already had a deep and rooted passion for good wine and food. Since I was becoming more and more passionate about wine, I decided to start the Professional Sommelier Diploma course with the Italian Sommelier Association, with the main idea of learning something more about wine and, at that time, I was not even planning to take the final exams.
