A Sky Full of Holes: Weather Records Aim to Undercut Kohberger’s Alibi

It was a dark and cloudy night—literally. According to records from the National Weather Service, that’s not just a dramatic opener—it’s the kind of detail Idaho prosecutors say could help dismantle Bryan Kohberger’s defense. On November 13, 2022, Kohberger allegedly left his apartment in Pullman, Washington, around 4 a.m., drove a short distance to Moscow, Idaho, and fatally stabbed four University of Idaho students inside their off-campus home.

He says he was just out for a drive. A moody, late-night cruise through the Palouse to clear his head and maybe catch some stars. But the government is now pointing to a cloudy, foggy, and unusually cold morning as evidence that his story doesn’t quite match up with the conditions outside.

Prosecutors want to introduce detailed weather data into the upcoming trial, pulling from the National Weather Service records in the area during the night in question. And they’ve got expert analysis to back it up. FOX Weather meteorologist Andrew Wulfeck reviewed the observations and found that visibility was reduced due to fog, with low clouds that wouldn’t have made for much of a stargazing experience. Not a blackout-level fog, but enough to paint the night sky with a dull, overcast haze. As Wulfeck put it, “not the greatest night” for a celestial joyride.

The timing and purpose of Kohberger’s alleged drive have been a central piece of his defense. In court filings, his attorneys describe a routine behavior—driving in the early morning hours to run, hike, or take in the sky. But prosecutors aren’t buying it, and the weather records could help them argue that the conditions were inconsistent with that kind of activity.

Wulfeck explained that temperatures on both November 12 and 13 were lower than seasonal averages, due to a ridge of high pressure in the region. Sky conditions, wind speeds, and even sunrise and sunset times all added up to one thing: a cold, cloudy night with no real celestial action overhead.

The nearest weather station is located at the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport—almost exactly between Kohberger’s apartment and the King Road crime scene. That location reported fog and reduced visibility but not enough to cause official alerts. Still, the takeaway is clear: if someone was out that night looking to hike under the stars, they would’ve needed a serious imagination—or night vision.

And just to top it off, there was no eclipse, no supermoon, no cosmic event to give a stargazer any real reason to be out there. It was just a dull, gray sky—pretty much the last place you'd want to be if the stars were what you were chasing.

This seemingly simple data point—weather—may become a strategic strike in the larger case against Kohberger. Prosecutors are challenging his alibi in court and want the records, along with other evidence, admitted at trial. That includes Amazon purchase history that allegedly ties Kohberger to a Ka-Bar knife and sheath, the same kind of sheath found under one of the victims, with Kohberger’s DNA allegedly recovered from its snap.

The defense, unsurprisingly, wants all of that kept out. Weather data. Amazon records. Anything that could further paint a picture they’re trying hard to dispute.

Kohberger is accused of four students in the early morning hours of November 13. Six hours after the killings, Kohberger allegedly took a smiling selfie in front of an empty shower. His attorneys say he was just out for a drive. Prosecutors say the clouds don’t lie.

Jury selection is set to begin July 30, with the trial expected to start August 11.

Prosecutors Are DIGGING Into Kohberger’s Amazon Orders—Will They Find the Knife Sheath?

Prosecutors Are DIGGING Into Kohberger’s Amazon Orders—Will They Find the Knife Sheath?

Was Bryan Kohberger just another criminology student fascinated by the criminal mind, or was he leaving a digital breadcrumb trail straight to his own doorstep? When Amazon search histories start getting contested in court, you have to wonder—what exactly was in that cart? A K-Bar knife and sheath purchase might just be the smoking gun… or in this case, the missing blade. Tony Brueski and Defense Attorney Bob Motta break down the alleged evidence piling up against Kohberger, from digital footprints to DNA, and the shocking possibility that he may have tried to return to the crime scene to recover the sheath he reportedly left behind. Could his own overconfidence be his downfall, or is there still a legal escape hatch for the defense to pry open? And really, if you’re getting a PhD in criminology, how do you not know that buying a murder weapon on Amazon is a bad idea? #BryanKohberger #TrueCrime #AmazonReceipts #DigitalFootprint #DefenseDiaries #HiddenKillers #CrimeScene Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Motions to dismiss? Denied. Death penalty off the table? Not a chance. At this point, their playbook is looking thinner than an airline napkin, and the prosecution is locking in every major piece of evidence like a well-oiled machine. So, what’s left for the defense? With DNA evidence, phone data, and surveillance footage all admissible, how do you create doubt in the jury’s mind? Defense attorney Bob Motta joins us to break down the challenges ahead, including the legal battle over investigative genetic genealogy and the near-impossible task of explaining away a knife sheath with Kohberger’s DNA at the crime scene. Is there any move left that could turn the tide, or is this a slow march to the inevitable? #BryanKohberger #TrueCrime #HiddenKillers #DNAEvidence #LegalStrategy #DeathPenalty #CrimeAnalysis Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? What do you do when your defense strategy gets shut down before the trial even begins? That’s exactly the predicament Bryan Kohberger’s legal team finds itself in—every major motion denied, the death penalty still on the table, and a stack of damning evidence that’s looking more solid than their case. Defense Attorney Bob Motta joins to break down what options, if any, the defense has left. Can they poke enough holes in the state’s case to create doubt, or is this just about setting up an appeal down the road? From the DNA found on the knife sheath to the potential battle over investigative genetic genealogy (IGG), we dive deep into the legal gymnastics at play. And what about those Amazon search histories? If the prosecution gets their hands on receipts for a K-bar knife and sheath, does that seal the deal? Bryan Kohbergers New Defense; Autism Spectrum Disorder

Bryan Kohbergers New Defense; Autism Spectrum Disorder

Bryan Kohberger’s legal team is fighting an uphill battle, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. In this gripping episode, we break down the latest developments in the Idaho college murders case, where prosecutors are pushing to limit his alibi defense and block any psychiatric evidence related to autism spectrum disorder. Kohberger’s attorneys claim he was stargazing alone the night of the murders, but with no supporting witnesses or evidence, prosecutors want the judge to shut that argument down before it ever reaches a jury. Meanwhile, the defense has filed a motion to strike the death penalty, raising new questions about how Kohberger’s alleged neurological condition could impact the trial. Could an autism diagnosis spare him from execution, or will the prosecution successfully argue that his planning and actions show full criminal intent? We dive into past cases where autism and neurodevelopmental disorders have been used as mitigating factors, analyzing whether this strategy has any real chance of working. Plus, we examine Kohberger’s social history, reported personality traits, and courtroom demeanor, looking at how these elements may be used to build his defense—or backfire entirely. As the August trial approaches, the courtroom battles are getting more intense. Will Kohberger take the stand to defend himself, or will his alibi be thrown out? What does this mean for the future of the case, and could this trial set a precedent for how autism is treated in capital punishment cases? Stay tuned as we break it all down with expert analysis, legal insights, and the latest updates on one of the most high-profile murder trials of the decade.
