Legendary NHL fighter Brian McGrattan joined Riley Cote and Derek Settlemyre in studio for an interview! Gratts talks to us about a couple cool pictures from his playing career, what he’s up to these days, his previous role in Player Development with the Calgary Flames, hockey players and enforcers struggling off the ice, Brian’s breaking point, how he became a better fighter in the second half of a career, and the art of fighting. Moving ahead we discuss McGrattan getting drafted by the Los Angeles Kings, a bad knee injury, getting a tryout with the Ottawa Senators, and playing with Dennis Bonvie and Stu Grimson. We also talk about the rivalry between the Binghamton Senators and Philadelphia Phantoms, the legendary brawl involving Ray Emery and Neil Little, some hilarious Emery stories, and the line brawl between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks and John Tortorella. Wrapping up McGrattan unpacks the end of his hockey career playing in the AHL and overseas, Steve Downie’s hit on Dean McAmmond, the role of enforcers, policing the game, and McGrattan playing on 6 different teams in junior hockey.
